Default 17 x 315s on front of F-body - how?

I have stock SS springs and would like to run 315 sized tires on the front of a 99 F-body.

Does this require a custon wheel - 34 offset 17x10.5 or 17 x 11?

Thx...

Look up frrax.com and go to the wheel & tire section, there's a sticky at the top dedicated to fitting these on an F-body.

I think you will need a 50mm front offset with about a 1/4" spacer for a 17x11 ZR1 wheel if it's a camaro. With T/A or firebirds 36mm wheels would work without a spacer IIRC.

Oh hey, look what I found half way down the road racing page: a thread about putting 315's on all 4 corners! Imagine that!

https://ls1tech.com/forums/road-racing/810057-need-help-wheels-tires-315x4.html

It appears as though you aren't the first to want to do this, or even the first to ask about it in this month!

Yeh, I read the sticky a few times - thanks.

...just looking for some ideas here. Willl 17x11 50 offset work with 1 inch or 1.25 inch spacers in the front; car has SS stock springs?

Apprently, this is not a popular idea but I'm into popular ideas!

You won't need anywhere near that size spacer. With those wheels I needed a 1/2 inch spacer and I think I'm at the higher end of normal.

You will need to install longer studs. The stock studs are marginal even for a stock size wheel. Throw a much wider wheel on there with a spacer and....well... I'd rather not be working the heat you run.

Thanks.

So on a stock height ride, I plan to go with 17x11 - 50 offset with a 1/2 inch spacer for the fronts.

I'll use longer wheel studs. Where are these sold?

Thanks...

It is very popular with ESP guys. I know a lot of 4th gens running 315's on the front.

I can buy a set of 17x11 - 36 offset wheels that match my hind set.

Question:

1. How many millimeters are in one inch; (e.g., how much difference in inches is there between 50mm and 36 mm)?

If I can go with the 36 offset, this would allow me to use the stock studs and no spacers; right?

Thanks...

Robert,
Do you have a camaro or firebird/trans am? The 36mm wheels work well on the Pontiacs, but I they are less than ideal on the Camaros. On a camaro you really should use the 50mm offset with a small ~7mm spacer. Changing wheel studs is not a big deal, and if you plan on tracking the car I would recommend it anyway. The stock wheel studs really don't have much thread engagement and are pretty weak.
IIRC I believe there are 25.5mm in one inch.

Van:
OK thanks.

14mm [50mm - 36mm] = .55 inches
7MM = .277 inches

So, using a 36mm offset wheel on the front would place the wheel approximately .55 inches further out than the 50mm offset wheel and this is too much?

Thanks.

I have only heard of one person using 36mm wheels on the front of a camaro. I would imagine it required a lot of fender flaring and trimming. If you have to buy wheels anyway just get the 50mm offset and a spacer, run the longer studs. You're going to spend money no matter what, it's worth spending just a bit more and doing it right.
