Doing a Cam only build on a new daily I got. Car is going to be 100% my daily driver so I kept the lift low so I could use beehives. Car will only see dusky use and Track (dig) . Car has 17/8 headers, full exhaust, and a 3200 circle d stall. 3.73 gears.
Not looking for a dyno queen or a all out build. Car has 241 heads and a ls6 I take. How does this look to you guys?
Those are some nice grind numbers but pretty large for a daily LS1......IMO
LS2 and you'ld be golden or perhaps a 3600-3800 stall
I seem to remember an Ed Curtis grind that I would call the higher end of a daily stick and it's like 228/236. Roughly .615" lift. Could still run it with PSI max life 1511s
XER lobe in a daily driver does not seem like a great approach with all of the softer lobe options out there today that make as much or more power...especially when you want to run a beehive. I also agree that those durations are a bit large. Something around a 228/232 would be a better choice IMO.
I think the duration is just fine. I'm sure the tune will be spot on with an emphasis on the low RPM tuning, so I don't see an issue with the size of the cam.

That cam will need to idle high enough that it will want to pull through the breaks. I am not saying a 234/240 can not drive OK but it will need significantly more stall to do so. 3800 minimum...
Daily driver and 3200 stall id be looking at a 224 sized cam. Back when I had that setup it was a great driver. It even benefited from a 4k stall swap. To run really well these engines need converter speed. I personally wouldnt run high 230s cam with a 3200 converter. Why? Cause someone with a better combo but same mods will pull up next to you and beat you.

my buddy has the 228/232 with same lift and i/c in his ls1 with 3200-3400 stall daily driver run 7.50 1/8 mile
that 2nd custom grind spec looks similar to what i ran as a DD. i'm actually looking at an off the shelf from lunati voodoo with the following specs for my next build and a bit more tamer:
230/237
.544/.543
LSA/ICL: 112/108
with a 3600 stall.
your 2nd specs looks like the cam i ran in mine, also a lunati voodoo
232/238
.599/.601
with IIRC 114+2
that ran great with mods in sig (the retired one).
No clue why anyone would have comp cut them a cam when for about the same price you could have cam motion do it and get a better product and better piece of mind.

And customer service out of this world. He can also mix nearly any duration and lift you want so you aren't limited to catalog lobes trying to balance duration and keeping the lift where you want it.
OP, I think you are going to be disappointed. I ran a 230/238 113+2 in my car when it still had an LS1 but with milled 799s with some porting. Even with a 3600 converter it felt like it was at the edge of tolerable for a car I could daily.
A cam that size or larger with a smaller converter and less compression is not going to be ideal. If you really want a fun but powerful daily driver and to run a smaller stall you seriously should consider going down a notch or 2. You might give up 5-10hp peak but you will gain that and maybe more in the meat of your power band and have a car that feels like it pulls harder through most of the rev range.
There are plenty of ways to squeeze more power from a moderate cammed car but not very many easy ways to band aid an overcammed car.
Thunder nailed it. Its all about the whole combo, as a package. Its no secret that thought out combos just plain do better. Hey I got beat at the track last weekend, by a 408 car on a 100 shot. He knew full and well if he raced me on motor, my 346 to his 408 he would get stomped. That says a lot, that you need a stroker motor and nitrous to beat an LS1 on motor. Sounds like his car doesnt work well. Dont be that guy.
I remember when I first got into ls1s. There were countless videos of 224 or 228 cam/bolt on fbodies curb stomping 450-480rwhp Cobras.
A 230s cam back then was "huge". Some things have changed but the biggest one I think is that back then 90% of these cars were daily drivers and not weekend toys. There just seems to be a point of diminished returns where you start trading off a lot more in manners than you gain in peak HP.
The baby 205/210 cam in my truck picking up 40rwhp really opened my eyes to how you can get the majority of the gains of camming a LS with a very small aftermarket cam
