Many of you have impressive creative vision. I'm curious to see what parts you've stumbled upon at the pick-n-pull and how you've integrated them into your builds, beyond the typical fuse blocks and cooling fans.
Post your best - and not just under the hood!

I should probably just post a pic of my cars, because that's where most of the parts on them come from! There are six of them within 30 miles of me and I honestly don't know how I could do most swaps without them. I feel sorry for people who don't have any near them....

Honestly, I don't know how 'typical" using fuse block from the pull-a-part are when doing swaps. I read a lot of build threads and I rarely see anyone adopting more than just what's needed for the engine harness.
Andrew,
WHen are you going to start another project? I really like your builds.
Thanks! I probably won't have anything of my own going for a while. I don't really have the time, money, and space after moving to Bama....I am trying to meet some new car people around here and helping out with their projects.

I work for a pick and pull type wrecking yard so I usually get first dibs on everything. I get to hear them run and can drive them so I know I get good motor and trans combo's. One of the few benefits I get as a rollback driver, That and I get 50% off and no core or environmental charges. 6.0 4l80e combo is $250 but we don't get them often but I snag them up when I can. We don't get the real good stuff because it's not profitable to buy late model cars/trucks at auction to sell parts at our prices. What's kind of sad is that I'm in the middle of a S10 Xtreme 6.0 LY6 with LSA supercharger and TR6060 trans swap and not one part has come from work lol

I saw 2 nice and straight Fbody cars there once, one was a hard top NO T-tops, V6 with a t-5, it might have made a great race car start for someone, they probably got crushed. You've got to go a week before memorial or labor day and scope it out, then return on the 3 day weekends to get the parts 1/2 price, got an extra 8.8 housing for my car that way and now I am going to use it.
I love self serve yards. I used to have to drive 3 or 4 hours to get to any of them, but a local yard was recently turned into one.
I'm building a 54 GMC. It's on a 94 Bravada chassis and will be awd with a turbo 5.3. I've got the shaft needed to adapt the T case to a 4L80e. I pulled a '00 4L80e at a pick n pull for $120. Here it is bolted to the engine and on the chassis.
The rear suspension is a 8.8" IRS out of a t bird. 3.08:1 posi with disc brakes. Came from a pick n pull for $180. I have a 3.08 front diff for the Bravada chassis too, the only gear ratios shared by the IRS and front diff are 3.08 and 3.73. Since it'll be turboed and I'm going to drive it on the highway a lot, I went with the taller gears.
The red GMC is the awd project. All the mismatched panels on my Civic came from a pick n pull. Those hatch backs weren't available with power windows and locks so I put doors from a EX coupe on it.
Only pic I've got, but I pulled 1st gen CRV rear suspension, diff and axles from a pick n pull to make the Civic awd. I have a K24a1 and 5 speed out of a CRV that I'll be swapping in, and a wrecked RSX type S that will be parted out and I'll put the K20a2 head on the K24a1 short block. It's a popular "frankenstein" build for those that aren't family with Honda K series engine. I'll probably swap the seats and dash from the RSX into the Civic too.
I pulled a S10 5 speed to put in my 53 GMC. It's staying more old school. Stock frame with Jag suspension front and rear. 270 GMC straight 6 with this 5 speed behind it.
One of my loads of random stuff. It's amazing how fast $30 or $40 parts add up to $500 or $600 lol. AC and body parts for my 92 Laser. The Mustang steering rack and S10 column I swapped into my 67 GMC. The two steering boxes are quick ratio 3rd gen boxes. I just grabbed those because they are cheap and I can swap them into my 1st gens. A Mark VIII fan just because it was easy to get and it's a popular electric fan to swap in things. The set of donut spares were just to roll projects around on. I left them on a 67 Camaro I sold, so I need to get another set.
I grabbed a 5.3 engine harness one day for $15 because it was already loose and just laying in the cab of a truck. That's a $180 harness on here all day long and I didn't even have to pull it.
I have used a ZF power steering fluid reservoir in every conversion. They are in Lamborghini's, Ferrari's, and Porsche's all over the bone yard. They are a lot cheaper when you grab them from a Land Rover or BMW though. Robust design with easy to use mounting bracket with isolation bushings.

Man, they've got some pimpy bone yards in Chicago-land!
I dig the AWD Civic idea, that's pretty cool.
I picked up various parts at pick-n-pull yards over the years, but typically just to use them on the vehicles they came from. Only thing I can think of isn't terribly creative, but it is an example of sharing parts from one brand to another. On my Subaru I noticed that they use little plastic clips (in 2- and 3-line varieties) to hold brake lines parallel to each other. So, when I installed ABS on my Fox Mustang and replumbed a bunch of brake lines I grabbed some of those clips off Subies at the junkyard to use on the Mustang. Just helps keep things looking orderly. You can see a couple on the lines in the right side of this pic:
It's a Chrysler style from summit, don't remember the brand, 1 1/16" never worked that great . Switched to a standard Willwood 7/8" that works muck better and clutch master
Not sure how creative it is, but I picked up a brake booster for my '59 the other day. Looks like it is about the right size. Came off a '98 Vette..... at the PnP... That was about the only thing left on it, it was Picked n Pulled clean!
