Okay so I bought back my turbo car last week and it still has my crappy high temp rubber oil hose wrapped in high temp heat wrap... I'm surprised it's held up the past few years, but for peace of mind I would really like to the part of the drain that goes over the down-pipe to be metal hose. I keep a fire extinguisher in the car but don't want to ever have to use it lol.
Here is how it is now.
After a year and a half on the car..
I tried using metal lines when originally installing the kit, but lack of space made it really hard. The bottom of the turbo sits just very slightly above the top of the oil pan were it is tapped so that's why I have a 90* coming right of the turbo drain flange.
I need a 90 to come off the flange like it is now, but with a threaded end or some kind of end I can put a braided hose on... and then on the other end of the braided hose I would like to put a hose fitting so I can reconnect to my oil hose...
So I'm guessing this you just put the braided line in the fitting and tighten it down with two wrenches? This would be good for coming off the turbo flange, but then I would just need a barb fitting for the other side of the stainless line..
As you know from my build thread, I'm working on this right now as well. I's using a line similar to the braided one you pictured, except I've got a 90 on each end. So one 90 is used to make the bend from the bottom of the turbo, towards the back of the car, and the other to make the bend towards the right side of the car to go in the side of the pan. So on the hose the 90 degree fittings are rotated 90 degrees if you follow me. That kit looks like it comes with a -10 bung to put in the pan. Do you have a -10 on the side of your pan already? If so I'd just get another 90 hose end and put it together. There are numerous youtube videos showing hose end installation. I think the ones I watched were from Russel or Earl's? It may be cheaper just to buy 2 90 degree hose ends, and a piece of 5/8" braided line. I'd measure and buy exactly what you need, I think mine is about 20", it depends how far back on the pan you put the bung.
Is it high enough and close enough for gravity drain back?
Yes just barely. The bottom of the turbo sits like an inch above the oil pan. After you put a fitting on it its just very soightly downward. Thats why I have to make it as simple and close as possible right off the turbo..
I cant really find heat values on the hose I posted above. One I found similar rated it like 350*. Thats only 50 better then the rubber thats on there now
If you don't want to dick with rubber line, then summit has some 5/8 aluminum fuel tubing that is pretty pliable & well priced. Grab a cheap tube bender, a 37 degree flaring tool from harbor freight & two -10 tube sleeves & nuts. And replace the barb fitting with a -10 male to pipe thread fitting, done!

I thought about this, but I think I have some 5/8 tubing and a **** tone a stainless fittings "left over" from work I could probably make something out of. Woud just need to get a female t4 oil flange 1/2"npt and screw in and then figure out if I could still bolt the flange to the turbo with that close of a 90 coming off...
Why not just use something like this. They come in many different lengths and bends. Use a threaded 3/4 drain flange, and thread in 3/4 brass pipe fittings and sweat them together. Will give you a large diameter drain that won't be sensitive to heat.
I've been using Jegs push-lock -10 hose for the drain and -3 for the feed with a DEI heat shield for two years without issue.
Hell my hose has been working with heat tape for 2 years. I may just get a new hose and try that dei heat shield. It looks a lot better Imo.
What size dei heat shield do I need? And did you get the slip on or the velcro?
i've ran my drain liek that on a DSM i built 13 years ago. I no longer ownt he car, but knwo the owner and its mint. Car gets beat on regulary, and is one of a handful of DSMS I have ever seen that do not leak oil LOL.
