Well got it freed up pretty easy
Rod bearings looked half crap. Cam bearings are copper and the main bearings look great. Like reusable good.
Three pistons have stuck rings. And here’s the worst cylinder
First couple strokes BUT; looks FUGLY<br/>feels bad too. Buddy’s choice. Spend money or F$&K it

Bore and plate hone isn’t expensive. Pick up a set of hypereutectic’s from WS6Store with rings for super cheap...prolly close enough to factory weight that a balance job isn’t necessary. I’d have the shop dip that block and crank while your there. Unless the cam bearings are way out of spec, I’d run them also.
Is this thing going FI?

the other option pending is his step son needs an engine for his white 66 biscayne Four door. Kids just getting his license and doesn’t need much power
Plus my buddy wants it fuel injected and reliable so he doesn’t get some 1AM phone call that the choke is stuck on his 1850 Holley crap *** carb or his points and condenser just **** the bed. Lol
Prolly should just do it right since this far. Put together a $325 shopping list on RA for Engine Tech slugs rings bearings gaskets Etc. WS6 prolly could come close. Guess I’ll check into that if we decide that route
1.00mm over should do it. Basically like .040” over
Would put cubes at 300. Compression w/.030” milled 706 heads at 10.3-ish
Would be a cute little combo with a 99 LS1 cam and LM7 intake & injectors. Have some ported G8 manifolds. Heck. His punk kid would almost have too nice of an engine for starting out.
Way better than the bull **** *** 305” I started with in a 79’ Camino back in 87’

Well either way it’s gonna get run hard. I enjoy these junkyard brought back from the dead builds. I put an l33 in my brothers 04’suburban in 12’. The original suburban pullout 5.3 had close to 200k on it and it was the infamous LS “where’s my coolant going’?” Issue. Anyway, a friend bought it from me for $165 and put it in his Silverado that already had close to 600k miles on it. The 5.3 is running great to this day, with another 150k since I had it.
Check out the WS6Store complete rebuild kits. I bought one for a 6 liter going in my nephews Silverado hot rod. The price is very hard to beat!

$699 for the 1.00mm (.040 over) or $660 for the ls1 pistons (3.898 bore)
That includes everything and is better than rockauto.
#1 we dont eff up the parts, they do alot
#2 completely customizable
#3 billet barbell
#4 ho flo oil pump
#5 ls2 chain and gears
#6 mls exhaust gaskets
#7 if for truck intake hd metal/rubber intake gaskets
Just a few reasons why we are better. I have had no less than 4 customers come to us from rockauto because they have an issue with them sending the parts they ordered or sending wrong pn.

My employer has a green-ECO friendly solvent tank that uses some bio-degradable detergent that when HOT works incredibly well. Mostly hand brush(plastic) some wire brushing on the tough spots and dark red scotch-brite pads for the skirts and piston tops
