You know, it’s strange, there are two distinct camps. One says 6.0’s are gas guzzling pigs, the other says they get great mileage. I bought an 02 2500HD new, 4x4, 4.10 gears, and it got 21mpg on the freeway all day, everyday. Hell, my brother helped me move from Michigan to Arizona, driving the same truck with 14k miles on it, dragging my 94 Camaro Z28 on a trailer, with two small blocks, a cherry picker, and and engine stand in the bed, with a fiberglass camper shell on top of it, and it still got 16mpg all the way across the country following me in the U-Haul towing my 76 Jimmy. So you know which camp I’m in.
It didn't matter how much highway I ran in my 1500HD. It still got 12.5-13.0 MPG. There's no way in hell it would ever get close to 20 MPG. I could set the cruise at 55 mph on flat ground and it wouldn't do it.

Pat
yeap it's strange how one guy likes his 6.0 gas milage and the next guy hates his 6.0 or wish it had more towing power.
Finally got me a truck guys. I paid 1700 dollars for the truck. It's needs a driver side window motor and the rear brakes need to replaced. Besides that she runs strong. The color isn't all that to me but I'll take it for the price. I do plan on stripping the side molding, tint the windows, installing towing mirrors, tranny cooler upgrade, cheap wheel upgrade, and replacing the cassette player for a aftermarket CD player. I just started a thread about CD players for under a 100 dollars... since I don't know nothing about audio. Yes it's a 454 gas guzzler but no longer will i have to ask to borrow someone else truck to tow my camaro and the truck also go be used as a spare vehicle when needed. Here is a pic of the truck. It's a 2 wheel 2500 454ci truck. All original except for the muffler. Plus no rust on the truck.... Just a few scratches here and there. I think after a good buffin I'll be happier.
Thanks for the comment guys. I really appreciate it. The tranmission in this truck is a 4L80E (60E's suck at pulling/towing) and only thing from now own it'll ever tow is my camaro on a open trailer when needed. A aftermarket cooler will get installed as soon as it heats up here in Mississippi. It's lightly snowing here now with a 22 degree temp to keep things cool. No longer will I have to ask someone else to borrow they truck.
A close friend of mine that's retired now and a friend of my dad sold me the truck. Some call it luck... I call it a blesson.
Otherwise here is another pic... I plan on stripping the side molding and replacing it with a simple 454 emblem.
I'm not sure I would even do that. Unless the moldings are getting all gnarly. The 454SS looks kinda cool, at least on a 3/4 ton truck
Yeap it's 3/4 ton. The side molding are basically turning grayish from the sun and age. Not a deep black they should be.
The paint is still condition for the age of the truck but it's getting "hazy" and have some fine scratches.... hopefully with a good buffer and some mothers compound I can brighten up the truck.
On my daughters S10 I did the same thing. Stripped all the molding off. It looks really clean that way.
Yes its a cleaner look for sure! I do want to let people know she's packing a rat under the hood tho... so a simple 454 emblems will be somewhere on the truck. Maybe on side of a 2 inch cowl hood if I can get my hands on one for a good deal.
Yeah, back in the day the 454 was "Big Daddy RAT". Lotsa torque and pass anything BUT a gas station. The later ones improved on that point pretty decently.
