Totally true however they usually only return merchandise within the first year and this stuff was nearly three years old. Still in the original box and all but sorta counting my blessings at this point.
Also got a friend who has 1200 mile LS3 heads sitting. He plans to use them for boost one day so I might just ask him for his blue springs and save some more money here. He also has a new set of valve seals from a dual kit that should work since these 862 heads had the separate spring locators

I’ll. Bet it is. The pic I posted for you of the 0965 is that 1999 Z28 cam that I’ve been saving. 198/209-.500”/.500” 119.5 LS. 117 ICL
I’ll look tomorrow at the original 4.8 Cam.
I know the LS1 cam I have is not the preferred one

well there you go. Stuff happens.

I still think you should spend the extra $40...

You certainly won't lose it And It would be easier to sell as performance oriented with the bump in compresion.

Thanks for documenting this, I bet it will be a strong runner with the attention to detail in key areas.

I am really hoping my buddy pulls the stock cam out of his '01 Z06 soon so I can slam it in place of the '01 LS1 cam in our JY 5.3L. Nothing like doing work twice.

Not so sure anyone buys a 4.8 for its NA abilities......with Chinese turbos cheaper than an LS6 intake and flex fuel injectors available; well you know, lol

Thanks for the continued support. Makes silly refresh jobs like this more enjoyable
And for the record here’s the baby cam that I removed from this heap

Did some poor man valve job work

Will most likely lap the exhaust valves one more time prior to assembly. This was just to check that my cartridge roll work didn’t mess up the GM valve job sealing at all

Here they are. The “wrong ones”
8cc dish. Compression height is 1.328”
After block decking they should be about .013”-.014” sticking out

With sealed power rings; My total out of pocket was twenty six dollars
#keepingitcheap

Its hard to tell from the picture on my screen . But it appears that your lap on the intake is a bit low in the margin , does this concern you ?

not at all worried
miles of wear will move the point of contact out and in fact performance valve jobs typically narrow it and move it as far out to the edge as safely possible, which maximizes the flow when properly contoured............

It's that generic kit....thinking it comes with 180 coarse and 320 fine
just used the coarse straight to minimize my time investment
Thanks for the compliment as well.....

Popped off the flat tops tonight. Put pressure on the pin then hit the sides of the rod small end with heat. Slide right out. Saved all the pistons doing it this way.

Grungy and nasty.

Stellar!

As I sit here wondering if this will be the 5th engine I buy from you, I am enjoying the progress pics! On a side note, get out of my head! You keep building motors that fit the needs of my projects.

Thanks for the kind words. Little over three hours of work and hands quite sore afterwards but just took my time and enjoyed the process

You “might” have too many cars dude; LOL....
People liked the Katech heads build for that thirtieth M6 car of yours. Remind me to update that thread once Tom gets some wheel numbers on that one.
So that silver 99Z parts donor car of yours could end up being a low buck drag/turbo combination in the future ??? If that’s the case, we know this pile will be cheap and you could post some pics of that whip to this thread.
Might actually make a unique build thread that went from free junk to buyer/user with multiple inputs. Kinda silly but cool as well
