Default Just installed 2.9L whipple on LQ4, a couple of questions

Hi All

I have a 1973 Camaro that I'm doing a LQ4, whipple, M6 swap this winter.

I just got my whipple and installed it.

My questions are:

I have a 102 mm Holley Throttle body. The TPS is hitting my top pulley. I was thinking about machining the side of the TB. Is there other ways to get the needed clearance?

Is there another spot to run my boost gauge to? I see a pipe plug in the drivers side behind the fuel rail. I figure that should have boost pressure there.

Is there a throttle cable bracket that I could get? I looked on the whipple website and didn't see anything.

Thank you.

Roman

Can you flip the throttle body?

That'll do it. I didn' check the pulley size. I asked for 12-13 lbs. It' a 4.00 pulley. If I just go to 3.5, it'l give me what I need.

thanks.

Thanks guys.

Jimmy, Yes LS3 heads.

How did you mount your throttle cable?

I just shot them an email. We'll see where that goes.

Thanks.

I'm using a 90 mm DBW off an ls3. I bought the hotrod kit @ Camaro spacing. U just flip it upside down. What spacing are u running? Let me know if u need help with the accessory drive.

Hi Jimmy.

Ah, ok.

I got the Camaro spacing too. I don't know about the accessories yet. I'll see when I get there.

Thanks.

Simple fab solution to the TB interference issue:

Order two 102mm TB flanges and a short length of 4-4.5" alum pipe. Weld together for a spacer. That way the throttle cam can be flipped back to standard orientation. Cable mounting will be easier. If you're limited with space up front, you can incorporate a 45-90* bend into the spacer for the intake tract to clear whatever obstacles are up front

If you know a machinist, have him map out the bolt pattern of the TB flange and machine an adapter to rotate the TB 90*. This way the throttle cam is on top and the sensors have room on the bottom

Cable bracket isnt hard either. With a fabricated neck, you can weld a boss on to mount a 98-02 Fbody bracket or design your own. Holley makes a sandwich style that goes between the TB and TB flange hanging rearward

You can get boost vacuum/pressure off the line going to the bypass actuator.

On my 2.9 the connections on the back of the blower are for IAT and MAP sensors. If you change the MAP sensor and calibration and have a gauge that can capture that signal you're good to go. If you have a gauge that requires an actual pressure reading it has to come from somewhere else.

That is a great idea. Thanks. I didn't really think about moving the TB forward a bit. That would simplify everything and like you said give me a spot to mount my throttle bracket.

Thanks for the idea!!

Thanks for the ideas guys.

I will poke around and see which works best.

I just wanted an easy point to access boost for my Hobbs switch and boost gauge.

Thanks.

Yours might be different, but on the back of mine there is a plug you take out and put a nipple in for a boost gauge along with the IAT and map sensor.. my map fits right in the case, the iat comes pre installed. This is how the Camaro kits come or like mine the hot rod kit in Camaro spacing. The nipple is a boost source for the BAP that comes in the 2010 Camaro complete kit.

Mines a 2016 Silverado 5.3. The IAT came preinstalled and the stock MAP sensor installs right next to it. Don't remember seeing another plug back there but maybe I missed it. Where is it relative to the other sensors?

Right back there on pass side. See the nipple? Yours might be a plug.

This is from the Camaro instructions found online

Hi Jimmy.

I checked, yeah I have 2 plugs in the back of the S.C. Thanks!

Also what holley acc. kit are you using? I was going to use the stock bracket but it won't fit around the S.C.

I was looking at 20-135 with the Camaro spacing adaptor.

Thanks
