How to get under 3000-2900 lbs
#61
My car is about 2980 atm with just a bit more than a 1/4 tank. I have yet to cut anything out or purchase any weight reduction mods either, but it is a tin can! I just love a completely gutted car! Cluster zip tied to the column ftw. Now its time to make some lightweight A arms, Im not a fan of any of these aftermarket ones that use stock LBJ.

If it unbolts I took it off. There is zero plastics on the interior, no dash, no HVAC, no A/C, no bumper supports, no stereo, and a tiny atv battery out back. So I lied, one purchased weight reduction. Still have wipers/motor, door bars and headlight motors in place (plan to remove all soon). Mines a hard top formula fwiw, supposedly the lightest to start with.
Im jealous zmg!

How much does the dash and its guts weigh in at on a F body? I did a Fox a while back and managed to drop about 150 lbs by pulling the dash and cutting out everything behind it. Basically all thats left is the plastic shell with some small aluminum square tube to support the shell, Of course its a 100% track car.. One of the big hitters while stripping the car was the factory wiring harness.(Pallet of wire at about 125 lbs) replaced by a painless setup that weight in at about 20... The factory electric operated seats in the stang were almost 200 lbs! Took 2 guys to get them out of the car. We took a couple hundred lbs of asphalt sound deadening material off both sides of the floor sheet metal. The factory rear hatch is crazy heavy even with the glass out..
As the car sits now, 5.0 engine lightweight accessories, long tubes into boom tubes, caged, with all lexan, glass deck and hood, gutted doors, kirkey seat, custom wiring, we rotisserie stripped the car with LN2 to bare metal, shaved and double spot welded all the seams, full shave job on the tub of all un-needed brackets, Steeda rear suspension (Aluminum arms), tubular a-arms front, lightweight shocks and all that jazz, Ready to race its looking like its going to take a couple hundred lbs of lead to make minimum weight with driver.. Or we will be light as hell in SPO/GT...

I'm at 3050ish with no wallet mods (removed 451#)
Still stock K, ABS, PS, full battery in stock location, S60 rear, iron 6.0, and 8pt cm cage. And heavy *** Race Stars...No cutting on major structure.
Cutoff wheel, hole saw, and remove everything bolted down. I even got the stock metal hood down to 25#.
It is pretty gutted but still has dash (gutted) and all the plastics so when you swing the door open it looks pretty stock.

I weighed mine this past weekend. It came in at 2993 with a 1/4 tank of gas. That's with full stock interior/hvac/cruise/washer fluid/monsoon/9"/full size battery. My li battery and race seats woulda nocked another 60lb out of it.

I believe you but, how is that possible? Or Is a Camaro that much lighter than a T/A? Obviously you have some wallet mods that I don't but that is impressive

So yep ,,we need about 450 lbs to make min weight . But the ballast goes down low..
The big deal was the rotisserie strip job, the car has had 100% of its insulation removed, paint removed then soda blasted, then the bracket strip, then the seam work. So huge labor intensity.. I lost the pics, but you should have seen what we took off with the liquid nitrogen, filled 2 large trash cans.

It has a 9" to. But it has a mwc one. So none of that big clunky bracketry like some has. Only thing really missing on the car is the airbags/foglights. Everything else is functional.

I just put a tube k in it a few weeks ago. But it's a hard top no tc car. I have a mwc front bumber support and a lighter hood still on hinges. Other than that just some attention to detail. Doing stuff like stitch welding the seams of the uni body instead of adding 40lb worth of steel in sub frame connectors.

How much does the 4 to 3 channel shave off? I plan on doing that in a few weeks when I put on the ABS! block/line lock/manual master cylinder. I need to get some hood pins to delete all that garbage too.
Hio, do you still have a stock size radiator? Mines basically all strip at this point so I was thinking about a 1/2 sized rad.
