Default How much oil - boosted w. stock pans

Those running stock oil pans, do you run an extra quart or more to compensate for the oil going to the turbos?

I believe some run upwards of 8 quarts with turbos. However if you don't experience sustained high G's you can use the full line on your dipstick as long as your turbos are primed with oil

^^^ This is my worry. Depending on the turbo, line size and length, there could be as much as 2 quarts of oil in the turbo feed/return system and starving the bottom end under accel.

How many passes on your new setup?

I run a CTS-V pan (5.5 qts) with 7 qts. All good pressure on the datalogs. My return line is 5/8 and about 24” long. My feed is 4an and about the same length. Hope this helps.

It does. Sounds running an extra quart or so is a good idea. I thought so, but wanted to verify.

No passes yet! Haven't had time. So far on the street my logs look fine running the 7qts.

If/When do you start running into foaming issues when running extra oil in the system?

Thanks.

we used it on a fox body swap. fits nice, but the ******* oil drain plug was tapped for some random *** thread like m14x1.75.

summit offered to swap pans...but it was in the car already so we just turned one on a cnc at work.

moral of the story, check that your drain plug fits before you install it

or better yet use a ctsv pan. its cheaper and does the same thing

i use them on all my personal swaps (chevy trucks) but i'm 99% sure it woud have fit with the AJE k member we used on the zephyr wagon

you can get them for ~150 as new take-offs on ebay

just make sure you get the pick up too.

the dipstick and the windage tray are the same as the truck stuff so dont sweat that

My turbo 5.3 sbe just spun 2 rod bearings last week. #2 & #4 i was running 6 qrts of rotella 15/40. Its a truck pan setup with turbo drain right below starter. -10an drain and -4 feed. Do u think running 6 qrts could have been my issue? It lost oil psi on a street pull. No knock etc. Just low psi once warm.

why the 15w40?

probably pushed all the oil to the top of the motor and it took forever to come back down since it was syrup.

15w-40 in a hot motor is hardly syrup.

I am... I used the recommended 6.2 quarts w filter... using 10-40 valvoline conventional and change it out every other month or so as it is just a weekend street car and not a daily

I recently didn't check for awhile and it got down to 5 quarts seeing a drop in pressure to 20ish psi from the normal 35orso.... fresh 6.2 quarts and filter and all good
