Default New Brake pads + Rotors?

Hey guys, I need new brakes an rotors for my V..
i was looking at HPS hawk brake pads and not sure what rotors to go with? I wanted slotted/drilled rotors but heard they crack easily so was thinking about getting just slotted rotors w/ hps brakepads. Opinions?

I just picked up a set of drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads from R1 concepts. I had them on my TBSS and had no issues so I figured I would try them on the V.

I'm about to do the same. From what I've researched Centric High Carbon non slotted/drilled are the set to go with.

I've loved the HPS/Centric combo (plain) for years on many platforms. HPS 5.0 will be next for this car. I just did Centric C-Tek (basic, uncoated) and Stoptech Street (basic) on the front of the V. Very nice results, stop like factory, quiet like factory, a fraction of the price. It wasn't the upgrade I had planned as budget was tight, but for the money I can't complain. Next time, will do the Centric coated rotors and Hawk pads...great combo.

From what I have researched, I will purchase the Centric High Carbon Cryo Treated Rotors.
125.62075CRY (Front) and
125.62076CRY (Rear)
For pads, Hawk HPS are dusty, but seems everything for something as large as this car will generate significant dust so that leaves little option. I have used HPS before on other vehicles. Here is the HAWK application compound list. Nice to see they have a new Street Race compound. Looks interesting. Expect lots of dust as usual with Hawk pads.

Aren't the rotors part of the brakes?

Hawks are really hard on the rotors compared to some others. Based on a lot of years on track in road racing, I like Carbotech Panther+ if you can get a fit for your car. They stop great, tolerate massive abuse and I used to get 3 sets of pads to 1 set of rotors with them.

FWIW ,, I never bed new pads on a new rotor or the reverse, I used to keep a set of rotors that were in good shape to bed new pads and a set of 50% pads that I bedded new rotors with. Easily a full brake marker later than new on new.. YMMV..

I love me some Carbotech pads. I have tracked with those up front with some Porterfields in the rear and that was a sweet setup that was easy going on rotors.

G-Loc brakes are new to me. I have not been on a track in a few years and I am itching.

Carbotech:
F: CT1001A
R: CT592

G-Loc: Here is the story of G-Loc brakes
F: GP1001A
R: GP592

+1 Forgot about the Porterfields but yes they rock on the rear, very controllable.
I used ot use their drum brakes on the back of a RX3, unfortunately they quit making them years ago.

Plain Centric Premium rotors.
ACDelco Professional Grade semi-metallic pads if you don't mind dust. If you do mind dust, Power Stop Evolution Z26 ceramic pads. In my experience, both are significantly better than Hawk HPS at a fraction of the cost.

I have ACDELCO 17D1053M (Professional; Semi Metallic) pads and CENTRIC 12562076 "High Carbon Alloy" rotors on the rear. The pads dust like crazy.

I think I am going with R1 Concepts eLINE Slotted rotors (I know I know a waste on a DD, but I like the theory/idea behind the slots) and their Ceramic pads for the front soon. I have their eLINE blank rotors on the front and rear of my Tahoe and they seem to have held up well over the past almost 2 years.

I am fairly certain they will make a set of their "Carbon GEOMET® Series" if you ask them (they don't have them listed for our cars on the website). This is the route I would go, but toying with the idea of going 5 lug soon.

Edit: Or I'd go with Centric High Carbon blank rotors and AKEBONO ceramic pads all around. I put a set of Akebono's (EUR1375 Akebono EURO Ultra Premium Ceramic) on the front of my wife's Passat with EBC Slotted and Dimpled rotors and they are great. Seriously like 10% of the dusting my blanks and Semi-metallic pads produce, stop great and are wearing a lot better than I was expecting especially with the way my wife drives/brakes.

I'll 2nd the Powerstops. I've had a set of these pads for ~85k and they work well as long as you have a hardened rotor. Cheap rotors need not apply.

Does anyone have experience with the Raybestos "Advanced Technology" rotors on these cars?

Not specifically for the V but Raybestos been around for a long time. I am extremely pleased with the Centric high carbon cryo treated rotors and Racing Brake ET800 pads all around.

~2,500 miles on the new brake rotors and pads. I love the ET800 pad material. Big fan of cryo-treated rotors. They were much smoother than any other rotors I have put on a vehicle by far. They work very well and it was at least $25-$35 cheaper to buy the pre-treated units from Centric vs outsourcing units I had purchased for further treatment. I rather enjoy this combination. They are perfect for the heavy car and my particular lead-footed driving style.

ET800 are fantastic pads for the CTS-V. I'm glad you like them.

Just ordered a set of Bosch "quiet" rotors and AC Delco pro pads. Hope they are reasonably quiet and work when it's raining. Whatever lads are on there now work like a block of wood on the first stop till the get a little heat. Exit ramps on crappy days are interesting if you aren't paying attention,

Mine have always been like that but just the first stop sign or two when it’s raining or had been raining for a while. I wouldn’t be ragging on it by then, so not likely similar issue but I know the feeling. It’s not good.
