It is set up with the cross-pan oil filter boss similar to an AWD Tblazer, but obviously 2WD.

Not a GTO pan, which has the filter at the front, but closer to the block. Besides, this block has the oil passage ports at the wrong end for this to be a front sump pan, which the GTO pan is. This pan is still a rear sump pan for this reason. What about gas-powered Hummer H1, which were for civilian sale only?

I do not know what it came off of. I was set up at a swap meet selling parts and a young man came up to me and asked if I wanted to buy some parts off of a ls7 and I said of curse. He brought me a new set of ls7 take off exhaust manifolds and then I got busy and he dropped off this pan I did not even look at it until I got home. I have been trying for months to figure it out. and just don't know. I did research the filter and it came back to a place that did testing on oil filters, that is a clue. I have wondered if it came out of the back door of GM. no one has been able to tell me what it is, I have had it on Facebook also and on one knows. Thanks Mark

With the hand etched part number and the brazing on the oil fittings, it might be a prototype oil pan of some sort.

The hand engraved part number, which is not a valid GM part number, and the ports on the sides which do not exist on any other GM pan, and the filter from a test company, leads me to believe it's a prototype pan.

The general external shape looks a lot like a truck pan, by the way. If you look at the shallow part of the pan, it has some recessed areas just like this truck pan: http://www.improvedracing.com/tech/G...dimensions.php

And that leads to me believe it was a prototype pan for that same chassis.

Also, those two ports on the sides of the pan that are sealed by the gasket - my guess is that those are drain back ports. This probably had a custom prototype block that had drain back passages from the heads that ran down to the pan, which would have been a GREAT idea, by the way. They could also be drain back ports for twin turbos.

Damn that is funky! The kid said they were "LS7 parts"? Was the LS7 dry sump?

Also of note the dipstick goes into the pan, don't most of the truck engines go into the block? I agree with others it is a prototype pan, now how in the hell did that kid wind up with it? Lol

Prototype parts are just scrapped, it’s very common for them to end up in the hands of the public unless it contains some very sensitive technology or information. An oil pan doesn’t really qualify as sensitive.

We are all in agreement that it’s a prototype piece. As said above, not that uncommon to see stuff show up like this.
my question is, what are you going to do with it? If you want to sell it, send me a PM. I like weird stuff like this...
