Any benefit to mounting a catch can away from the motor?

Keeping it cool will make it work more efficiently. The problem is that there aren't many places to mount it where it's away from the heat and still easy to access. Putting it on the inner fender near the battery is a popular choice, but the hose routing tends to be a bit obvious which some people don't like. Mounting it to the head is just the most convenient and attractive way to do it so it's become the standard method.

The point of the catch can is to trap oil condensation. To do that effectively you want the air flow to be relatively slow (larger diameter hose), the can to be relatively cool (cooler temps promote more condensation) and the flow through the can to pass over something that the condensation can grab onto (usually some type of mesh or filter material). Mounting an empty can to a hot surface with small diameter hose will do zilch for catching oil, but is a pretty common setup that people run when they don't understand the process.

How much and what size line did you run to route it there? Just wondering if your sealed catch can setup decreases your vacuum too the point it will affect the power brakes.

I may be completely wrong, but I have tinkeritis, and figured I'd give it a shot.
