Default Looking for driver's seat foam and lower seat cover

As the tile says. I'm looking to repair my driver's seat. I once had it bookmarked in my browser but I can't seem to find it. Someone sells it.

I only need to repair the L lower if someone could help me out.

Thanks

I see what looks like some nice kits for the bottom part of the seat on EBay.

This is the foam he used in the video, but it's not clear if you can buy just the bottom foam only. The seat back foam will not fit the Trans-Am seats. Does anyone know if you can get just the seat bottom foam? JEGS seems to sell this as the top and bottom, and it may be made by OER and the kit is the SF240.

In the video it's of interest that both front seats are mostly the same parts. It makes it an idea to look for a passenger seat with less wear than a driver's seat. I also like the kit on EBay for the seat bottom only.

Yes .... I saw the leather lower only as well for 177 bucks if that's the one you're talking about. At this point, I'll buy the lower and upper if that's what I have to do to get new foam ..... either that or get an electric meat carver and some foam and get to carving. A person could make a mint carving foam at say 100 a pop.

Ok .... the description for the aforementioned ebay part is "1996-2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am -Driver Side Bottom Leather Seat Cover Tan." Am I wrong to assume that the `97 foam will work with this part?

I had the same thought to possibly buy the foam set just to get the bottoms.

That 177 is what I was looking at. Have not used him yet, but I think he had a phone number, I know you have to be pretty careful to color match if you're only doing the seat bottom especially. I think he may ask for your VIN and SPID code for the seats.

I forgot about the carver for foam! I think you're right I heard of that before.

Let us know how you're making out or if you find out more.

I have an email out to OER to see if I can find out if they sell the bottoms only. I sent it this weekend.

In the seller's description he carries the 522 color code that I have. I would hope that it would match everything else. My passenger's seat is still perfect. The driver's lower is shot and the upper has a split at the side seam that can easily be stitched up when I remove it. If I can't get the foam, then maybe I can add a slice of foam at the bottom - which should be just a straight slice that can be glued. The lower frame has probably cut into the foam ... so that would resolve that. If there's some other re-enforcement can be done, then I could do that. I'm a cheap bastard but it has to be right.

LOL! I applaud being a cheap bastard! A penny saved is a penny earned.

When I get to this on my car, I want to put something in between those wires and the foam, for sure.

I think if I don't find out the bottom foam is available separate, I would buy the foam kit and maybe you can resell the seat back foam on eBay.

Exactly!!
So I heard back from the seller on ebay who says that the `97 foam does indeed work on my `99.

Have not heard a peep from OER, but I was able to confirm from the maker of the video above that he had to buy the kit and re-sell the seat back foam on eBay. He says it sold fast, as you would expect.

I think when I do this repair if I can't get just the bottom I would have to do the same thing. That new seat foam for the bottom just looks too good to pass on to me.

I did exactly what you're saying on my 99. I believe the parties Mark 93-97 Camaro and you only use the bottom cushion, came out perfect. I had my guy put a piece of carpet underneath the foam in between the wires. I hope this helps you.

I've been trying to think of what to use, carpet is a great idea!

I've seen photos of "professional" upholsterers who build up the old foam with sheets of the jute material?

It would seem to me the new foam would be a much better choice than re-using the old foam?

Did the new foam need trimming to work well?

Actually it was my neighbors carpet, I am in a communal garage in New York City and it was wrapped around a dividing pole. My guy does leather interior interiors for new car dealers for a living and made a house call for me, it was his on the spot idea. We gladly helped ourselves LOL. Get the foam and the piece of carpet and it will be perfect. I was in the industry for a long time.

@sjsingle1 that link is highly relevant! I had seen that.

If I'm hearing you guys right it's sounding like you greatly favor new foam over building up old worn out foam? It seems to me like the seat bottoms would tend to take more of the weight and abuse than the foam in the seat backs, plus there's less foam in our seat backs because of the adjustable mechanisms. Have not read up yet on how those mechanisms work and if they have issues with wearing out and leaking?

It's such a PITA! WHY doesn't someone make this foam and sell it separately for the bottom and back???

I'm going to look for that foam in your picture online for the seat bottom. It looks like you have to buy the kit and sell the seat back part.

Do you need to trim it to fit at all?

Thanks for the thoughts!

The cushion is an injection molded piece, I didn't trim anything. The top is junk or a good kneeling pad lol.

Confirmed, made by OER, Inc. and available from JEGS or Venom Classics.

https://venomclassics.com/product/19...rized-sf240pr/

If you buy two, it's $270 from Venom, not sure about shipping.

Great information in this thread. Thanks for all who have posted. I suppose if I buy one set on ebay for a little more than half of the 270.00 for the full set, then I don't have to hassle with it. if it's say 150 there plus 177 for the lower seat cover then I could do the seat for 327- ish. I would image that an upholsterer would charge more than double that.

The upholsterer here wanted to start at 375 for this job, and that's not with the right new seat foam, that's building up what's there with jute material. He claims they make all their own covers.
