Default Newest (Feb 22) oil analysis from my C5 using German Castrol

Here are my latest oil analysis results from my 98 Corvette
6100 miles on oil
Oct 11-Feb 19 (4 months)
43,000 miles on the car
German Castrol Syntec 0w30
K&N HP1007 oil filter
K&N air filter
Daily driver with a lot of rush hour traffic
14 quarter mile runs
7L oil capacity
No oil added (none was needed!)
Oil life monitor indicated 18% oil life left
Analysis by Wearcheck Canada

Iron 9
Lead 2
Aluminum 3
Copper 2
Chromium 0
Tin 0
Silver 0
Titanium 0
Nickel 0
Silicon 7
Potassium 2
Sodium 0
Boron 5
Barium 0
Calcium 2790
Magnesium 129
Moly 9
Phosphorus 782
Zinc 930
Fuel 0
Glycol 0
Water 0
Oxidation 63
Nitration 55
Viscosity 12.4 cst at 100c
TBN 4.22

To sum it up, this oil rocks! We've had a number of very cold mornings here (-10F) and this car sits outside most nights, and I don't use the block heater either.

This oil and the LS1 are a match made in heaven! Buy up as much of it as you can find! (BTW-if you live in Canada, this stuff is on sale right now at Canadian Tire for $6.29 a liter)

Autozones in the US are still going to be selling it, but only in the ones with larger oil displays. The ones with smaller displays will be phasing it out to make room for other oils which sell better (such as the new Mobil 1 Extended Performance, which is expected to be a big seller)

Talking

It says Made in Germany on the back label. It is hard to find around here.
It is also a different color label.

Hey Patman, kinda off subject here, but what oil would you recommed for my wifes 04' Grand Prix GTP CompG with the s/c'ed 3800 V6? She drives it ~60 miles roundtrip each day on the interstate, and we also use it on the weekends as the family car, with the occasional trip the 1/4 mi by me.

So how much life was actually left in the oil according to the analysis?

Patman, any verification on the rumor that the 0W-30 Made in America is now the same formula as the stuff Made in Germany?

Its not made in America, infact its not even made in Germany, its been made in Austria all along. Any Castrol engineer or PR person can clarify this. Why it says made in germany I don't know; but I don't want to cause confusion, just buy GC 0W30 end of story.

I'm pretty sure GC is a group 4 oil but I think theirs some additives in it.

I'm not sure which one is European car formula though, other than possibly the 5w40 version, which is made in Belgium.

This oil would work well in there too, as well as something like Amsoil 5w30 or Mobil 1 0w40. That engine loves just about any oil, it's bulletproof.

It most likely could've gone another 4k, if not more.

If it's got the same specifications listed on the label, it should be exactly the same, however I'm not so sure if this stuff even exists since I have only heard of a couple of people who claim to have spotted it.

Terry Dyson is in the process of having this oil completely analyzed in order to determine exactly what it's base oil is and what additive package it uses. So far the results are taking longer than expected since this test is very in depth and expensive, but the initial results show this oil is made with some pretty exotic materials. It's no cheaply made oil that's for sure!

As to it being made in Austria, I've heard that rumor too, but it doesn't matter where it's made in my opinion, as long as they keep making it in the same formula. All I know is that it works!

I run the AMSOIL series 2000 5w-30 in my 2002 TA. I absolutely love the oil as I have ran it in all my vehicles and all of my race cars. I had contacted a good friend of mine to happens to be an AMSOIL dealer and he recommened me to run their 0w-30 which he told me is their most high performance oil out. I used to run shifter karts and I also used their 2 cycle oil for the gearbox as well their premix 2 cycle oil at a ratio of 50:1 as I was instructed even though i was skeptical as it is very lean and I still have never stuck a 2 cycle motor using this mixture. I did so anyways and had 3 different oils dynoed and I actually picked up a few horsepower just by switching to AMSOIL...I have nothing but GOOD things to say about them...Just my 2 cents for anyone who cares to know a little about it...
