Default Nearing my first 9 second pass...

Just curious as to how many of you just jumped straight in a car that ran 9's and didn't even touch the 10's, 11's, 12's etc.

I'm 19, been around drag racing my whole life. Help run my dad's 548 '70 Camaro that runs 9's and I just bought a 9 second '67 Camaro (big tire backhalf car). I've made passes at the track but just screwing around in a 15 second car , I've also screwed around in several cars just not sub 12 second cars.

I'm just wondering if anyones had the buildup I'm having. My car ran a bunch of 6.21's first night out with a big ole vacuum leak (wouldn't idle at all) with my dad in it. For my first run the car will be on aclohol carb instead and have a 100 pound lighter me in the car. I say when I uncork it I'll be running 5.80's with bordering 1.2XX 60 Ft's and about 114 MPH in the 1/8.

Anxious would be the word to explain all this, sure will be sweet though. I've got a '69 that I'm pissed at right now because it's not fast enough

I'd suggest easing into it, maybe making half track passes or tuning some power out of it. Going that fast all at once is going to be serious. I can screw around in my slow 14 and 13 second cars, feels like I'm not even moving, but even running 11's w/o bottle in my LS1 feels really fast. I'll get bored with it and 11's will feel slow, but **** happens really fast in a sub 11 seond car. I mean you don't have much time to look at gauges and stuff, and you actually have to drive the thing sometimes, instead of just point and shoot like a 13 second car.

I went 11.02, then redid the car, went 10.3 in about 4 passes. Next time out I went 9.6, after that 9.4.

I noticed the car handling badly, so in there I did another alignment, re-centered all the rearend parts, lowered the front of the car 2 inches. Car felt safe after that. I've gone 5.99 and 116mph.

**** I'm nervous about going from my 11.4 at 440 rwhp car to the new setup pushing 700 rwhp! I'm just going to run 10's with an easy launch for now, then get faster later on.

Nothing to fear there, its a buick. It'll break before the 60' mark!

J/K, I just sold my GN last year, always broke it but thats what happens when you try to make big power on 231ci.

Hahahha, sounds like me, except i've only had mine for like 5 years:

13.7, 13.5, 13.3, 13.1, 12.7, 12.2, 12.0, 11.7, then I sprayed and skipped to 10.4, then I built the new motor and went 11.1's on motor, 10.9's on motor, then went sprayed new motor 10.2's, 9.9's, 9.7's, 9.5's, and hopefully soon even faster!

But yeah, a 9 second car and sub 1.3 60's is nothing to sneeze at, the first time I ever hooked like that and toted the wheels up 4 or 5 feet, it scared the **** out of me and I let out, never felt anything like it before, took some seat time to get used to it!!!!

I'm going to launch the car at 3k then run the throttle stop to drop it down to 2500 RPM .005 seconds after launch for about 1.4 seconds. Should set me up for a 7.00 @ 111ish, however I'll have about a 2.00 '60 ft. which is the same as I had in my slow *** '69 and my moms slow *** '86 Monte Carlo SS.

Helps to be on 14X32's instead of little 10 inch or small tires. I just want this done with, hopefully we can get the car in my uncles trailer in a few minutes and I can get this over with tonight.

Well I got there and the throttle stop wasn't working so I went ***** out first pass.

Botched the burnout, was pissed with that but still had a 1.350 '60 ft. When the front wheels came down the car went to the left and got out of the groove so I dumped it and straightened it up to a 6.94 @ 100 in the 1/8. Had a .012 light, that I was most excited about.

Second pass I screwed up the burnout again, had a 1.341 '60 ft and the car didn't shift into high, I let up and slapped it up a gear and ran a 6.47 @ 101. Had a -.001 light, again I was happy with that even though it was red.

Next time out I'm going to up the launch from 3800 to 4600 and hopefully get a clean pass in. Definetely an experience I'll never forget, car even ran a 10.XX letting up at the 1/8 mile. I wouldn't be afraid to put someone else in my spot though, it was fast but hell the second I launched I started laughing because of how kick *** it was.

NOTE: I found it ironic that I couldn't do a burnout, I've done a burnout in just about anything I've ever driven from a 4 cylinder truck to a 440 Road Runner.

def a quick car but 101mph in the 1/8th is def not enough for 9s, youre off by a long shot about 7-9mph in the 1/8th and thats alot of power when youre going that fast i say about 70rwhp.

Sounds like a good first night out in the car. I would suggest that if you get out of the groove and the car gets loose just let out of it, get to the finish easy and wait for the next pass until you get more seat time.

Look at his ET though, 6.47, that is darn close to nines depending on how it back tracks. Most big tire cars will trap a little lower with there silly 60' times too.

Sorry, didn't see this thread got any new responses.

The first run the reason it trapped 101 is because I was out of it for a second or two since it was out of the groove. Second run I didn't have the air on so it was on the chip for a second and I shifted it myself.

Since then I've run a best of a 5.96 with a 1.302 60 ft. at 114 MPH. It's lean in 3500 DA launching a little soft. I must say I'm already getting bored with the speed of the car, I have a good probably 20 passes under my belt. Two runs I was lined up crooked and had a low 1.31 60 ft. and the car went for the wall, that's an experience to drive out of that. Lost about .05 in ET and when I let up past the 1/8 the car was wobbling on me with those big *** tires

I'm either going to try to buy a lighter tube chassis car or my dad is going to put his 540 in mine and hopefully I'll hit some 5.50's.

For now though I hope to see some 5.80's at 115, the car has been running 5.98's the last two weekends massively lean. I got a pass in better weather where it wasn't as much on the lean side and would've run about a 5.95 (was bracket racing and dumped it... on my dad). Mine leaves boring, just picks them up and goes, I want to put it on the bumper. I can honestly say I wouldn't be afraid to put someone else in my same situation to put them straight in a mid 9 second car, it wasn't that hateful. I don't have the proper licenses to run 9's and my home track has too short of a shutdown but I'd like to think my car would click off some 9.30's or 9.20's.

FAST = FUN
