4 speed guys
Alright I got a saginaw 4 speed. What are the weak points in them, cause I'm wanting to put some power to it. So what can I do to make it stronger or am I better off getting a different tranny?

Get a different trans.
When I was 16 I had a new looking saginaw in a 75 nova, at that time it had 3.08 gears in an open rear with 12" wide tires.
Engine was a 400 sbc with a comp 268 cam, wrong intake (torker one), and a 600 holley. I managed to break three teeth off the cluster gear the first night I was able to drive it. And that was with a stock clutch, seems like it was smaller than 10"

I want a T56 but I don't have the cash and my hours just got cut at work. I have the saginaw already and it will prolly be in the car when it fires up, but it's going to be replaced as soon as I can. I was just wondering if it could be built for cheap and be stronger.

muncie sucks too i have broken 3-6 every summer since i have been driving my impala, saginaws are extra weak and really like to explode! t-56 likes to rip the engagment teeth off of third, or lock up first on the mainshaft richmond's like to blow the cluster gear out of the case i' ordered a super muncie we'll see how that goes this summer never got a chance at a t-10 just my 2 cents the old sag uses a really small input shaft that the weak point pontiac muncies seem to be better than the rest though

Saginaw's are bad news, as previously stated they break with ease.
damn just buy a Jericho and be done with it.

auto with a stall! what are you looking to with the car? race it, street driving, street tires, drag radials, slicks??? it depends what you want to do to how extreme you need to go. even if you go t56 it will need a lot beefing up to hold with out breaking as will all the other stock trannies. for street driving go muncie and it will work for some racing too. my dad has never busted a muncie with his 69 ss chevelle and hangs the tires in the air through second. auto with a stall if you racing is the way to go though, but if you are dead set on a manual go with a jerico since that is what it was built for.

Yea, if you are willing to go with a muncie, just do a damn TH350 with a stall, since actually having overdrive is not a concern. I have has T5s last thru allot actually, world class models. But the 5 speed or better is how i look at it for a street car, even if it will see some track use.

Yea auto is out of the question. I want to have fun ripping up the gears. It's going to be a street/strip car and will most likely get a t56 when I get the dough. I was just wondering if the saginaws could be beefed up a little but oh well.........if it pops it pops lol
