What do you consider good? The stock crank and rods are good for 500 HP with ARP hardware and some forged speed pro slugs. What are you looking for?

Big cam, big heads, intake and carb with 11 to 1 compression, all depends on what you can afford. AFR heads, custom grind comp cam, large tube headers, Super victor intake, all the normal race goodies that will spin an engine up good.

500HP out of a pump gas 355 will be tough...and not cheap. I might be making 475 with my 350, and I think it is about maxed out. I have ported AFR 190's (270cfm @.500" and 280cfm @.600"), hydraulic roller (240*@.050 on a 109LSA with .580" lift), ported RPM Air Gap, 750 Mighty Demon, 1 3/4" Super Comps and really good valve train components. I have a stock l98 bottom end. To get more HP, you are going to have to spin it higher. I am shifting at 6800, so I think you are going to need to be in the 7200RPM range. My advice...throw a stroker crank in there and make a 383 out of it. You can hit that 500 mark at lower RPM and have more torque at street driving RPM's.

Yea, it would be the raggedy edge of pump gas, but it can be done. Not too street manners friendly but who needs that? LOL

What kind of power can be expected from an all forged 355?
I was going to build one to replace my vortec in the future.
Thanks

Depends on how hard you want to ring it out man. A 355 at 6000 with OK heads will make 425-450, one that hits 7000 will get to 5000 or so but needs damn good heads and cam as well as other supporting mods. Otherwise, that is why the LS engine is better, stock heads and lower end can go 7000 with a cam, springs and pushrods.

I know guys at the track running well into the 9's with all forged 355's. The secret? Lots of compression, cam, gear and converter. 500HP on pump gas (naturally aspirated) is the tricky combo. A good roller-block with factory crank, rods and pistons should be fine at the 450HP level and 6500RPM. My stock shortblock L98 finally gave up a piston (or just rings) this summer after 100's of passes, spinning the engine to 6500RPM+. The ONLY things in the block that aren't stock are the camshaft and timing chain. Plenty of guys doing this with LT1 motors too. If I dumped $2000 into a forged rotator, I would be making sure I had a big cam and good flowing heads so I could get my money's worth out of the shortblock. Otherwise, stick with stock stuff and maybe better pistons.
