Doesent look like there are a lot of members in this section. But it would be cool to see what this motor puts out with some AFR heads and a big cam with a high rise or something. Does anyone know if a old school muscle forum? Maybe like a chevelle forum? Lol. I'll look around and post something if I find anything

It seems the old school crowd uses an engine dyno for numbers, and the LS/LT/Hemi/etc folks are all RWHP numbers.

I'd love to see some more chassis dyno results of nice small blocks and big blocks, but its just not as common. On the Power Tour I watched a bunch of stuff dyno, but seeing anything old school put down more than 400rwhp N/A was uncommon. Even this months Car Craft had a built 512 inch Mopar and only did 409rwhp/411rwtq, quite underwhelming.

I have designed a 534 BBC going in a 25.2 chassis. Hoping for 1000RWHP and 600lbft of torque after all is said and done NA. 8500RPM redline, shifting at 7100, torque peaking at 6kRPM. On the bottle with two progressive stages i am hoping for 1400 and deep 7's. Originally it started out as a mid 9's 540 BBC NA.

The problem with the older blocks is oiling, alot of guys are having to use dart sportsman blocks, big M's, or GMPP blocks to get a good platform. Not alot of great blocks to start from and the head/intake choices suck compared to LSx availability. Head choices just are not as good as the small block guys until you get to aftermarket. At that point porting is much more common than on LSx builds. To be honest there are some really really nasty big block small block heads available on the aftermarket which are a better buy comparted to BBC aftermarket heads. The problem with building BBC's also is price. The prices are just mor expensive for everything. Unless you were building a motor 540+ i would not even consider a BBC as a platform to start from. I am always impressed with the 408 SBC numbers - just amazing.

I am an avid SBC/BBC member here...its what i know more than LSx builds. HP numbers are actually close motor for motor/build for build. You guys have a really good weight advantage on top of it all and can spin them higher.

I'd love to see an LSX 454 and an BBC 454 comparison with simaler mods, same cam specs, simaler specs. I would think they would be close in hp #'s but would be fun to see

Yeah, most guys I know use engine dynos. My partner has a 421 sbc for sale that made 801 hp at the flywheel.

I should probly rephrase my post. RWHP is not important, HP @ the crank will do just fine

Problem is that a lot of those folks are using old style parts such as non roller cams (which are typically have too much duration), old school heads, and are not perfectly tuned on the timing and carb sides to get those low numbers. I can think of 15 friends who thought their cars were 400 to 500 hp and ran more like 300 to 350 hp at the track due to not tuning and getting the engine combos dead wrong.

Theres two videos on the web of 632 bbc cars on a chassis dyno making monstrous power. One is a chevelle with a 6000 stall that made like 750 RWHP and 600 RWTQ and the other is a 55 bel air with a lenco trans that made 965 RWHP and 700+ RWTQ.

My dad has an all aluminum 500" with way to small of a cam and it made 1004 on the dyno.

According to Wallaceracing.com calculator, my wifes 489 with oval port heads made 475 rear wheel h.p.

if this thread is still alive, i have a 582cid but it is a dart block. low compression 9.9:1 lumpy cam, 1050 dominator NA makes 780hp 728ft-lbs (flywheel) in my transam

my build is not complete, goal is to be in the nines, i have a bullet proof drivetrain and a 12pt cage and welded seams. if i cant, i will procharge it. also i want to be able to pull the front wheels.

i also have a 10 camaro, about ready to chuck the warranty...the ls motors run like a swiss watch, hence my interest in this forum.
