Default lt1 cam in a sbc?

Will a cam designed for the 93 lt1 non vented opti work in a tpi that im going to convert to carbed vortec. It is the cc503, i have it in my 95 formula and am happy with the way it runs in that and am willing to try it again sense i got one laying around. Ill have many questions over the course of the build. Build car: 1987 350 tpi 5 speed trans am.

I don't believe so, the LT1 oil drive system is different than a small block chevy. Will possibly work if you are running an external oiling system (Wet/Dry).

Yup itll work just fine, the only thing youll have to do is trim down the dowel pin. Theyre identical to the 87-92 roller cams except for the longer dowel pin.

Rob is 100% right about this - shorter dowel pin is the only difference...

do not forget you have to run an lt1 type timing change sprocket on the the cam being that the bolt pattern is a little different than that of an sbc block

Any 87-92 style roller cam chain will work, you do not need an Lt1 specific gear set.

so the 87-92 cam sprocket has the smaller bolt pattern? just be sure to check it better safe than sorry

Yup, all the gen I/II roller cams have the smaller bolt pattern than the pre-86 tappet cams.

As long as it has the factory type roller setup. It will not work for the older blocks. But 87-2002 roller blocks all day.
