hedman vs hooker vs doug thorley on sbc
I have a 69 Camaro and need help with header decision. I have hookers competition 1 5/8s on their now. Had to do some denting to get them in on the all stock 350. I just rebuilt the motor last week and now running AFR 195 heads with raised exhaust ports. The header on the driver side is against the power steering. They are the cheapest hookers I could get at the time and I want to replace them with some good new ceramic coated headers. I think I have narrowed it down to 3 choices that I think will clear and fit nicely.
Hedman HED-66003 1 3/4" and a 5/16" flange 18 gauge,
Hooker HOK-2451-4HKR 1 5/8'' and a 5/16" flange 16 gauge, or
Doug Thorley 376Y1C Tri Y 1 5/8" and 3/8" flange 14 gauge.
Has anyone had any experience with any of these

Take a look at these guys.

I will probably order these for my Pontiac next time I need some. I never liked the fit of Hooker or Hedman.

If it's just touching you can use a chainsaw sharpening bit in a Dremel and it'll go through the cast iron steering box like butter. There's a lot of extra meat there that can be taken off the corners and such. Since the engine torques to the passenger side you only need a few mm room to keep from having problems.
BTW, for spark plugs get yourself a short 12pt 5/8" socket for 1/2" drive and grind a couple of flats on the side of it. It works kinda like the LT1 $20 tool and will slide over the plug and let you use a wrench to get the tough ones. I can do all eight in and out in maybe 20 minutes. NGK FR5 plugs have been burning good in my 10:1 SBC with AFR heads.

SSellers, how are you liking the AFR heads? I just installed mine with a Lunati Voodoo cam but havent gotten to drive it. Still down going to start on the Coan torque converter tonight. Hopefully I will be driving it this weekend

what tranny are you running? I just drove mine out of the shop yesterday. 3.73s with a th350 2800 stall coan converter and the afr 195s. Runs good and strong but is missing at about 1500 to 2000 rpm just cruising down the road and right before it shifts. I dont know what the problem is. I have msd 6AL and pro billet distributer.
