Default How much will two bolt BBC mains hold?

Just wanted to know how much horse power a factory two bolt main will hold. It's going to be a street car but those of you that have seen my other posts know it will make a decent amount of power. Right now it looks like it'll be about 530 horse N/A and a two stage 300 shot . I think that it would be a no brainer but a couple of people have said the BB mains are "beefy" enough to handle quite a bit. So exactly how much is quite a bit?

i think the stock 2 bolts will hold up around 600-700hp easy. also heard that its better to convert a 2 to a 4 bolt main then to use a factory 4 bolt (atleast the truck 4 bolts)cus they wernt very good.

We had a '73 Chevelle that went high to mid 9's all of the time run with stud 2 bolt mains. When we took it apart, bearing wear looked great. No sign's of any problems.

Thanks

I know this is off-topic, but what do people mean when they talk about dual stages of nitrous?

I have gone well in the 8's on 2 bolt main blocks with stock caps, 2500lb car though, and I'm sure many have gone faster with one The 2 bolt blocks are better if you are going to convert to an aftermarket 4 bolt cap (even a stock 4 bolt cap I guess) since the main web is solid in the area on a 2 bolt block and its kind of 'cast around' the outer bolts on a 4 bolt block - hard to explain.

With the number of aftermarket blocks out there converting blocks really doesnt make sense anymore. You can do pretty well with a 2 bolt block, a 300 shot on anything is pretty rough though. you will most likely get some cap walk but it will last a while if it has oil.

granite, most people use a two (or even 3 stage) shot to soften the hit out of the hole. You would run say a 150 shot on a .5 second timer and another 150 on top of that. A 300+ shot out of the hole is hard to hook up and hard on parts..

There are two hits in a dual stage, one hits at or just after you leave the line (this is a light hit to keep tire spin down), then when the tire speed is up the second stage hits (this is a much larger hit that would normal blow thw tires of the rims). Its just a way of using a smaller amount at the start to reduce spin, but a larger hit to obtain the ET desired.

Have you ever compared a two bolt and a four bolt BBC main? The 2 bolt has so much more material, just use ARP studs (the more expensive the better), or else.....

We just dynoed a car last week. 427 with 2 bolt mains. Ended up making 841 to the tires, and it ran a 5.57 in the 1/8th. That was with two systems on it.

Oh btw, Milodon makes a conversion kit for BBC. Its a kit with instructions and converts a two-bolt main into a four-bolt main. I think they might have been making one for SBC too, but I am not sure.
