Default Fastburn Heads

http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sum...fo/heads1.html

Are those flow numbers on the Fast Burns legit? If so that seems like a killer head for the $$. Is a different header required for the exhaust ports? If those flow numbers are accurate I'm going to pick up a set and a new HSR lower manifold in the vortech pattern. I was told they were overrated, good for an easy 450 hp and not much else.

ive heard all sorts of differneces. SOme say thaose flow numbers were from the prototype heads and that the actual production heads flow around 245-250@.500 and around 180@.550

I would agree with NICK, above. I went with E-Tec 200 heads from Edelbrock which are claimed to flow more than GM's. My E-Tec's flowed 230@ .500-.600 and with bowl work, 5 angle valvejob, no runner porting they flowed 260 with a 50+CFM gain on the lower lifts. For Sale I might add ET Performance ended up setting them up for 1.55" solid roller springs/valve and I never got around to using them. PM me if interested.

Oh and it seems every "vortec" manifold out there has TINY ports made to match the production IRON heads small ports. Ended up porting the hell out of my RPM Air Gap to match E-Tec 200 size ports.

I'm getting ready to bolt up a set of the E-Tec 200's to a 383ci with a Holley Stealth Ram set up looking to get between 450-500 hp. We'll see in about 2 weeks.

Mine went right at 240 stock. Now that there ported they flow 306. I had them flowed at a national head porting shop, and they flowed over 330. So it depends on the bench, and where the leaf blower is positioned.

So the actual production head dies above .500? Looks like getting a cheap set of fastburns won't offset the 520$ to replace my HSR with a vortec pattern one anyway.

Production head peters out on the intake around .500-.550. the exhasut keeps going into the mid-high 180's up to .600. Not to say you cant port them a tad and bring the numbers up, as stated by some other members. All in all, it isn't a bad head, 250cfm on the intake is great when compared to most stock iron heads flow around 200, but it all depends on your goals. If you already have an HSR base for pre 86 heads then step up to a set of afr 195's or 210's.

There should be a sticky about the differences between the different Vortec style heads, Fastburn Heads, E-tec, etc. I think that there is alot of misinformation around about these heads which I have unfortunately been a victim of.

You won't need a new intake. They have the old pattern intake bolt holes (pre-LT1) My motor has a Holley Strip Dominator on it. Its for the 55-87 style engine. The intake ports are raised a little on the heads, but it didn't matter since I had to open it up to match my ported heads.

My motor made 596hp with the fast burns. It puts down over 740hp rwhp on a 250 pills, with just a 352 ci engine.

Its not real big, just a real fast ramp speed. Its 252 and .620 lift on a 109 plus 4. Heres a link to the video of the motor being dynoed. Its a large file, so just right click and save as http://site.tennesseeauto.com/projec...d/DSCF1793.AVI
