55gpm is more than enough. While a mechanical water pump may outflow an electric at 7k RPMs, I don't see how that would make a difference unless you were going to stay there a long time. My friend put a CSR electric water pump in his '67 El Camino and it runs MUCH cooler now because on the street you are at lower RPMs most of the time where a 55gpm electric water pump really outflows a mechanical water pump.

The biggest downside to an electric water pump in a street car that is commonly brought up in these debates is longevity. A lot of people figure they are only good for a set amount of operating hours since that is all that a manufacturer will guarantee them for. A lot of people are scared off then because of the rapid overheating that would occur in the case of a complete failure. It comes down to this: lots of people are running them on the streets with no issues, so it comes down to personal preference whether or not you want to "take the risk". BMWs now have factory electronic water pumps, so I don't think they are all that dangerous.

I have the Meziere 55 gallon electric water pump on my L98 1989 Trans Am. I bought it for the extra horsepower. However I quickly found out it really helped in keeping the motor cool.

During the summer with the air conditioning on it does not over heat in slow traffic or in the mountains. I could not say that with the factory water pump as the temperature would slowly rise. I have not had any problems. However I made sure all the wiring was up to snuff.

Thats what I plan on going with for my 89 GTA when I get my 383 eventually. Good point on the wiring. Between now and the 383 I plan on replacing the radiator with an aluminum, and along with relocating the battery, doing the new wiring scheme. Check out M.A.D. enterprises website for the 411.

Same deal on my '70 Nova. The CSR electric pump works better than a high-flow aluminum belt-driven pump I ran before at under 2700 rpm (above that or highway use and it runs a tad hotter, but nothing extreme), and it's a big help at the track between round (you try cooling off from 180 degrees in 5 minutes)!

CSR even states their pumps are good for street and track use, so I'd say why not, go for it!

Thanks for all of your opinions. I'll be looking to get one as soon as my stroker kit arrives.

.

It's the same as a fuel pump, you have to get one designed for street use.

Good luck.
