Default Converting my LT1

Looking at converting my lt1 car to an old school set up with a 383 and a carbuetor, a 12 bolt and maybe a turbo 350. Can any one tell me what problems i may run into or if it is even possible to do this swap

i thank you guys for the help it seems like its not a real hard thing to swap an old school sbc into a fourth gen fbody what about the tranny will a 4l60e work or should i swap it out for something else

4l60e will work but you'll need a stand alone computer to operate it. Thats why I went with a built 700R4 so that I didn't have to have a computer.

Not so true. 4l60e's can be made to not need a PCM to controll it. For this to work you would need to have it converted over to a vacuum modulator. Once this is done it no longer needs a PCM.

so how much would a 700r4 cost to with stand a 550 horse 383?

too much, i think it would be easier to get a stalled th400

I paid $1500 for my 700R4. Its easy to say get a th400 or th350. But if your not making a strickly drag car I'd get a tranny with Od. If your going to street drive it 80-90% of the time the 3 speed will kill your gas mileage. Of course your not building a good gas milage car, but you want to be able to drive it and not have it parked all the time.
