Default How bad is this?

Just picked up this 509 casting 400 yesterday and noticed these two issues today. I'm not sure if they are actually a problem or not, so maybe someone else could chime in.

Near the water pump mounting location.

Near the oil pan, but is actually located outside of where the oil pan bolts to the motor.

Yeah, I'll definitely end up doing that, but I was a bit concerned since I made a 6 hour trip yesterday to buy this and I'm kicking myself for not really noticing it yesterday.

Here's two better shots of the second area of concern.

From the top.

From the bottom.

The area by the water pump inlet isn't a big deal and can be fixed. Not sure what we're looking at in the other pics.

Cool. Some JB Weld should take care of the water pump jacket area is what I've been suggested to use.

Attached is a pic of the hole I'm talking about. Some say it's just a casting area that isn't vital to operation, so I'm a bit less worried.

thats where your fuel pump arm goes through......i dont think it would be much of a problem if you used an electric fuel pump.

It's actually not connected, but it's really close in proximity. I will be using an elec fuel pump regardless though...this things gonna make HUGE powa!

i wouldnt worry about it then, if its not a hole into the internals, if its just through the casting, it should be ok.

LOL what?
The fuel pump rod doesn't go up and down. That hole is a locator for when the block is machined.

For the water pump mount, that bottom hole is for a bypass, I'd tap it and plug it on the block and water pump. Then just drill three 1/8" holes in the thermostat for bypass or rely on the heater core if used.

Look at '96 and up vortec blocks, they don't even have that bypass hole.

The fuel pump push rod follows the yellow line---far away from the direction of that hole.

8a8mfh is right, a mechanical pump runs off the cam...that's what the fuel pump push rod is for.

What were you thinking of, an elec pump???
