Default putting GM 18 degree heads on 94 LT1 camaro?

i didn't buy the car yet but i want to do this conversion, any one done that?

GM 18 degree heads converted to LT1 style heads and installed on 94 LT1 camaro. i think i will need custom 18 degree long tube headers or maybe i need to modify the Hooker 1-3/4" longtube headers for LT1 camaros.

also i think i will need custom 18 degree pistons. i want to do GM 18 degree headed 396 motor in 94-95 LT1 camaro. any one know about this conversion?

thanks.

The LT1 headers are the same as and old gen 1 headers, thats going to be the easy part. How are you going to moddify the heads to work with the reverse cooling system of the LT1?

Drumer919, if the exhaust ports surface of the 18 degree heads is not as the angle of the exhaust ports side surface of the LT1 heads the headers need to be modified or i will need custom headers.

the conversion of the Gen1 SBC heads to LT1 can be done i know that some shops did that conversion and i can remember some one told me the conversion alone will cost around $250.

the member Mindgame in camaroz28.com forums did that conversion with GM 15 degree heads in his LT1 F-body as i can remember. he did as they told me 540rwhp.

I have a gen 1 small block (with 18* heads) and I use pasesetter LT's and there was no issues.

I'm pretty sure you just weld up the reverse cooling passages. I found a thread a long time ago on thirdgen.org about a guy putting LT1 heads on a first gen. I'm not sure if some of the steps are the same, but he got rid of the reverse cooling so that might help you.

if u gonna spend money on something like that y not just go sb2.2
on dart block, or use dart block with 18* heads instead of lt1 block
and standalone efi system

i think it is a LOT more than $250 to convert heads or a lot more people would be doing it. The Lt1 heads are great an all, but the aftermarket for the SBC is huge and there are better options than a stock ported head.... and $250 is cheap.

IIRC, all you have to have done is welding up cooling passages to direct the flow where you want it. Then the choice is if you want to drill the heads for the bolt pattern or the intake.

sb2.2 are a lot of $$$.

also getting the dart block will cost more than if i convert the 18* heads to LT1 style.

I would convert to a Gen 1 SBC just to get rid of the opti.

but replacing a distributer becomes about impossible once you have a normal SBC in it.

No, not really. Its no walk in the park, but its not an opti either.

I just got a set of brodix heads and they are converted to run on the lt1. What you have to do is weld up the 4 coolant passages that would normally flow to the intake, then machine out 4 areas on the bottom of the head that matches the lt1 head gasket, and the tricky part is the oil return is in a different spot that requires drilling, reaming, and pressing a brass bushing in(which has to seal because it goes though the water jacket).

When I get the flow numbers in a week or two I will know if it is worth it. But I have big goals for next year so we'll see.
