Hey all, I have a friend who is going to be building a 89 ta with a 305, and a m5, where would be a good place to go to get all the basic specs, as far as engine, power, tranny, stuff like that. any and all help will be greatly appriciated.

Well, we will see, but not soon enough. I need a axle for my dana 44 rear, a cross member and a torque arm. Then i can use the slicks and see what happens. I am pulling mid to low 13 second cars easily with a 2.73 gears easily, so with the 3.73s you can imagine i am sure.

If he wants to build a motor, find a 350 block. You can pick up a bare 350 block for around $100-125. Then everything that you were going to do to your 305 do to the 350. then you can use all your assesories off the 305, and even the 58cc swirl port heads off your 305 that will get you about 10.8 to compression with a set of flat tops. Crank and rods will be the same as well, for a 1 piece rear seal (86-98) 350. If you build a 305...you'll be disapointed when you get done. You'll spend twice the $$ and not go as fast.

haha, yeah, your new motor oughta be a bad boy Zones. yes, the next motor will be a larger cube motor...but i'm gonna run this one till it pukes a rod out the side...i'm doing a solid camshaft swap this winter that should put it in the 11.7x range. we'll see. which means that i'll really need to step it up on a big cube motor cause it would suck to spend all this money on a new motor, just to go out and run .5 quicker, lol!
ok, i'll be nice and post it all here...i got it in my vB garage on thirdgen.org so it's not difficult to copy and paste.

So, how well is the S10 ps box? Do you drive the car on the street? I want to do this but was not sure how well it would work with a GT steering wheel, i had a S10 with the manual box but it had a I4 so the front end weight i am sure isnt the same.
What you think about it in a VERRY often driven RS?

well, i have the factory steering wheel from an 87 camaro LT, and i daily drove the car for 2 years with that manual box. it wasn't bad. you could tell when you had the full size 245/50/16's up front and you could tell when you put an iron head back on the motor that there was more weight going on up there, but it wasn't bad...it's all about priorities and what you're willing to sacrifice or deal with to get the car down the 1320 as quick as you'd like to with the combo you're running...atleast that was the case with my car.
