im wanting to build a 700-800 hp na bbc. i have the motor, and for starters im going to bore it to a 496, and put a stroker kit. im not too sure where to go from here though. this is going into my 99 z28, and it will be a drag car/weekend car. so any info would be appreciated.

.

It's very easy to make a 800 HP 496". Just not going to like the street very much. Springs will take a beating, 320-340 lbs.
My 476" made 800 even. 320-340 heads, 13-1 +, 1050 dominator, med size roller. Good luck.

Aluminum heads are nice because they save weight and are easier to port when compared to cast iron. Cam, get a big one, lol. I think mine's in the 270 range but I also have a 555 so you will probably need a little more cam. It won't like the street, is this an auto or std.?

Go to wallmart and pick up a copy of Engine Masters magazine (not all wallmarts have them), might find it at a book store. They just built a moderate 496 that made like 620hp at 6,XXX rpm.

Rather moderate cam, dual plane intake, RHS aluminum heads, pump gas car, deamon 850 carb.

Don't go to big on the cam, that will kill you, don't go cheap on the vavle train parts.

If it was me I would go up into the 550-72 CUI range, Brodix or equivalent heads, more then likley a single plane intake, get a GOOD stall to match it all, IE Coan, Neil Chance, ect ect.

My car has a 468 BBC (punched out 454) and has out of the box aluminum c port heads that came off a 4X4 truck and out of the box Holley strip domintator intake. Cam is big enough that I can't run power brakes but its not to hard on the valve springs and is still a cruiser car/racer. Carb is a BG 850 that BG ported and polished to flow over 1,000 CFM (has BG etched into it), 10.1 compression but it likes the race gas.

From what I can tell from some runs I have made and against an LS1 GTO I assume the car is making deep in the 500rwhp range on the motor.

Keep in mind this is an engine that was build back in the 80's t0 90-91 max and is still together after a lof of nitrous and was built by a former pro stock builder.

Plan to soon have the heads and intake done by a current pro stock guy.

Back in the day with less mods the car went 11.1 on the motor, heavier then factory weight. Im sure it will go 10.8-10.9's next time it gets to the track.

Just giving you an idea what you can do with very little. I don't think it will be very hard to get this car to make 600rwhp range or close to it on the motor with some more work.

Motor was built right and has yet to be taken apart and the car has 26,000 miles, I assume the motor has at least 10k miles on if not more, has seen many 275-300 shot runs also.

P.S. What back are you using? I hope not a factory if you want to bore it that much. Thought a 496 was stroked.

496 is stroked. 4.25" crank(+.25" from stock) and a .060" overbore= 4.31" bore. or 4.35 bore for 505ci.

This is what im talking about.

I am going to go with a 496 in the future, i am looking for 700 fly HP on 93 octane that wont kill me to drive the hell out of on the street. I know 12 to 1 is possible on a big block with aluminum heads, i am still needing to know what kind of head flow and cam specs i might need? I will be running a T56 hopefully and see where it goes
