Default chevy small block

Is it possible to do a 4.125 inch bore and a 3.75 inch stroke in a chevy 283, to make 400 cubic inches?

thanks!

second the no, but you can bore your 283 .125 over with stock stroke. leave the line at 8000 rpm shift at 10,000.

you need an aftermarket block with siamese bores to acheive that bore size.

.

The only chevy block that will take a 4.125 bore is a 400. If you have a 283", try selling or trading to a restorer.
Someone that needs a number matching 283". Than get a 400 or aftermarket block.

Yea, you can go .060, but you are not going to last long usually.

you could bore your 283 to 4.125 but you would catch hell keeping water in it and not in the oil pan. the 400 can be bored out a good bit because most of the time its filled with hardblock and you're only wanting to make it a 1/4 of a mile from where you are. you really wouldn't want to get stuck in traffic with a stock bore on a hot day with a well built motor with a 400 though.
