Default Big Block Broken Timing Chain

If I have a 454 chevy out of like an 89 chevy 1 ton that pretty much exploded the timing chain. What bad stuff could happen to the motor? Bent valves? Could it mess up the pistons? It makes a bad noise when cranked.

I would pull it apart and go through it. With a broken timing chain, you could have a number of issues.

Yeah will do but I was just wondering what i should be expecting. Is the 454 a non interference motor?

Yes it is an interference engine.
I'd pull the valve covers off and look for loose rockers. Any loose will indicate bent pushrods or valves.
Depending on what was found there, I'd put a timing chain on and do a compression test to check for bent valves.
The pistons are probably ok even if they did bend a few valves.

Thats not entirely true. You could have slightly bent valves or pushrods and not even know it.

Gaskets and rod/main bearings are cheap. Pull it apart, check for bent pushrods/valves, and metal shavings or pieces.

Ok, I am pretty sure that it is salvagable.

New question. What should it go in?

Just throwing ideas around. The motor was basically free.

Hell you could put it in anything. G-body, A body, Mustangs, Mopar, mud truck, street truck, and on and on. It all depends on how much you want to spend.

I thought I said to check for all that but I guess not.
I meant there are going to be loose rockers and bent stuff. Easiest check is to touch the rockers, and who knows if they're all tight then take them all out and roll them on a piece of glass. And to check the valves do a leak down test and listen for air at the ports.

But none of that even matters, I thought the OP was trying to get a truck back running. Now it turns out to be an engine without a vehicle.
Might as well take it all apart for a rebuild.

I was thinking the same thing at first.
