A friend of mine who posts mostly on ls1.com has a 3rd gen 305. Its pushing about 12 lbs of boost and makes 375 RWHP. The car runs very well, I think it has slightly ported heads a small cam but I am not sure....

You can make a 305 respectable but not scary fast. For the same amount of money , you can have a 350 that will scream. The 305 is just not worth it to modify. www.thirdgen.org has been there, done that. They'll back up my statement.

GMHTP (or maybe its Chevy HP) has a car that they have been modifiing from time to time called the "Bitchin Camaro". They put some out of the box Vortec Heads and boltons on it. They managed 250ish RWHP thru an automatic & 3.42s with some tuning. Respectable like they said, but not at the level of a modified LS1 or LT1.

Well my 305 is slightly modified. I spun a rod bearing in it so i just wanted to do some tinkering. It has 305 heads with a 3 angle valve job and the exhaust openings have been ported out, it has flat top pistons and some where around 9:7:1 compression ratio maybee higher, A cam desighned for a late 60's early 70's 327 (226@50 447 lift) hits a little lick, headman headers, 2400 stall, possie 410 rear end wich i really want to go back to my 3:42's and a 700r4 with b@m shift kit and kick down kit.

The car ran 9.43et in the 8th with just a stock 305 with the shift kit eldelbrock entake a supped up quadrajet and a 3:42 gear ratio, thats aroun 14.7 in the quater, hell, book says 88 irock z ran 15.2. I have had a 350 in my 82 camaro. I tried the swap and had just a little more bottem end power but the 305 had way more top end power. Due to a larger bore in the 350 (4.0 inch bore) it makes more bottom end torque and horse power wich is the better motor,305 (3.75 bore) less bottom end power but smaller pistons are allso lighter wich is why 305's pull better on top end. The same motors interchangable parts all except for the pisons. same exact motors just different bore size. If i had the money though i would have a 355 (30 over 350) in my car now.

I had a 305 in my 79 camaro back in the day. It had some minor mods, performer intake, holley 650, small cam etc. It was an automatic (th350), when I powerbraked it, holding the brake and putting the gas pedal to the floor it couldn't even turn the tires over lol.

No. Please stop trying to talk motors because none of that is right.
