dont shorten a stock aluminum...aka used driveshaft. The aluminum is porous...gets dirt in it and just wont come clean for the weld to hold. been there did that twice last year....2 different places welded it and it broke both times on their welds and these were driveshaft places. just my 2 cents

Make that twice in one day. The second guy bad mouthed the shitty welds the 1st guy did and said his would be fine. His glorious welds broke too.

My driveshaft is not the stock aluminum one if that matters. Should I still not shorten it. I'd really hate to throw a steel shaft in there!

No more power than you have, just make one out of 3" sch. 40 PVC pipe. Id say get a good glue for the fittings though

Yeah I know what you mean that steel shaft will steal probably less than 1 RWHP @ the most from ya.. .. my car came with a steel one and after I swapped to aluminum my buttdyno did not register any difference in the steel vs the aluminum ...

PS If you get to the point that you are making big HP you'll ned something besides that aluminum one..

It's not a loss of rwhp that I'm talking about. It's the fact that I just bought this aluminum one, and only ran it for the one pass that my 12 bolt broke. I guess I really should switch to steel considering the fact my 12 bolt broke and the aluminum driveshaft didn't, but I guess it's because I'm not making enough power though.......right? The company I bought my driveshaft from said it's good for around 800rwhp! Let's be realistic dude. There are 10.5 outlaw cars running aluminum driveshaft's and they make alot more power than you or me, so I'm really not going to get into a pissing contest with you about wich is better. I asked about cutting and welding my aluminum driveshaft. I didn't start a poll on wich one is better.

It's all good! No harm hear. Yes the carbon fiber driveshaft would be sweet, but just a little bit out of my $ range for a driveshaft!
