I'll go with the factory commissioned COPO option on the 1969 Camaro SS. My dad almost ordered one but found the 1970 GTO Judge Orbit Orange was the greatest color ever put on a car. In his opinion. Not sure of the total production number of the COPO in 1969 but they were factory commissioned option cars.
If you can give me hard proof otherwise I'd have no argument because my dad is almost 100% sure it was a factory option. Its been a long standing debate between us. I mean hard evidence not just "I think" or "I once heard". He had the order form in his had in 1969. He was 18 then.

COPO 9560 was the ZL-1 aluminum block and head option 427 engine, 69 built, $4160 option (cars retailed at $2727 for a base model)!
COPO 9561 was the iron block and head option, research shows 201 went to Yenko, and an uncertain # went to other dealers. $489 option, and first 50 optioned to Yenko were SS cars, then remainder was X-11 (base car with style trim) or X-44 (base car) which is why many 427 cars (both iron ones and ZL-1 aluminum) had no engine badging, just the standard Camaro header panel, fender and trunk lid emblems.

I'm assuming my dad was looking at the 9560 option on the car, may not have been an SS but that's what he always calls it, because he said the GTO was WAY less then the COPO he wanted. He sacrificed the HP for the color. Bad deal?

Villian is right about the 69 ZL1. Another bit of trivia is it is the only car GM authorized to be returned to GM.
Starting with #51 - #69 they were given to prominent GM racers. Free! (most of these cars sucked an intake valve right off the bat!) Many of the earlier numbered cars were shipped to other dealers. The cars were plain Jane and price wise competed with some high end cars. I've seen the list of all 69 of them and some had some unusual options that I never realized were available.

I would say this unrestored 41,000 mile 1968 Camaro Z/28 Convertible Trans Am option car is as rare as they get. 1 of 1. The owner was offered $1.2M earlier this year and declined. The car was in our shop for a TV show spot last week.

Rarest RPO F-Body-signicant package (a soft top Zee wasn't RPO...):
1995 Firebird Formula 1LE...according to Jim Mattison, TWO were built, one green, and one here in Kingston Ontario that was featured in High Tech Performance Magazine, 1997, as "Project Formula 350", driven and still owned by Dan Corcoran. Took a letter to Maureen Kempston-Darkes, then-GM Canada President, to get the car built at the behest of Earl Dickenson, Director of GM Canada Motorsports (and the guy who brought Ron Fellows to the attention of Herb Fishel...). DOCUMENTED.
Dan drove to a Second Overall finish in this year's One Lap of America in an ACP carbon fiber Widebody LPE Twin Turbo '01 Z06, ALSO a Magazine Project car for VETTE Magazine...
Dan also owns one of eight body-in-whites released in '98 for the Motorola Cup Series, which featured only 7 fresh Firebirds... HIS became a One Lap-only car, converted as a Firehawk and finished Second Overall in the '98 One Lap, best-ever finish by a "pony car", matching Lingenfelter's "Silver Bird"...
Dan's wife still summer-drives a triple-White '99 Firehawk convertible, one of about 105, and a LOT rarer than the 30th Convertible many bought that year for much more money......
Buy low, sell high...

If you equate rare to valuation, nothing comes close to the Pete Estes car.It is hands down the highest valued camaro in existence, and arguably the most historically significant as it influenced his decision to allow the Z28 to survive. There's a good chance that if that car had not been created,Estes not have approved of the continuation of the option-how many camaro enthusiasts would there be today without that performance history?

One of one first gen vert Z28,single COPO order built for then Chevy GM Elliot "Pete'' Estes. He was a convertible freak, and they feared he wouldn't drive a coupe so they made this one to convince him to approve the Z28 progam into the 69 model year..and it turned into a five decade option less a couple of lean years in the mid seventies.

Pete liked convertibles...and this was a good way to get him to drive the car and approve a couple of new options.........
There have been a myriad of 'one-offs' over the years........some intriguing...some very powerful...some really great......a couple very strange!

Questions. What's the diff in a 99 1LE and an 02 1LE? Also, I have heard for years there was only 1 1999 HO 1LE A4 made....I'd like to have that car! <--- I see now. 1 SS and 2 Z28s. I'll take the SS.
The Estes car is rare and the writers of the ad are good, but calling a 302 a muscle car is a stretch. And there are 69 Zl-1s already bringing what they are saying the Estes car "may" be worth. I'd put my money on the BB any day.
