Correction - only two 69 ZL1s were given to prominent racers. They were #51 to Lamar Walden and another to Dick Harrell...don't know what number his was.

i have a '78 TA with a GM RPO SCCA code that apparently nobody's ever heard of. only dealers can de-code it... it has the Pontiac 400cid with 350 HP and 400 TQ out of the factory. it came with lower seat braces, bigger sway bars, dropped suspension, etc. i've never come across another one like it. i guess that thing's pretty rare.

I think someone asked earlier about the rarity of WS6 Formulas.... As far as I know, they only made 473 in 97', and a handful in the other years. Now I would like to know specific build numbers, as in the number of 6speeds, etc....

I didn't know that GM built it. I just thought that some privately owned shop built it to show off what they could do. My mistake i guess.

The GM Performance Division built it along with the "Sunoco" Camaro. Both debuted at the 2003 Woodward Dream Cruise. If I remember correctly, both cars were the first two done by the newly formed GM Performance Division.

I'm sorry, they said "rarest" F-Bodies... Not the F-Bodies "Most likely to star in an 90's **** film"...

Sorry, it's late and your comment just made me thing of the 5.0 Mustangs with the red interiors that they used to call "**** red"

If you broke it down to that kind of granularity, my WS6 would be like 1 of 3 (BPM WS6 6-speed, without TCS and with AR9 seats), and my Formula would be 1 of about 8 (BPM hardtop, cloth interior, A4 "stripper" Formula).

Is this what people talked about back in the late 60's early 70's about thier cars? Mine is rare this and that. Is it such a big deal to have a low numbered car? Should we all vaccum pack our cars for the future? Whos gonna buy them? **** maybe finding a 83 Ford LTD with a 302 might be the thing in the future I dont think many of them were built.

Desirability is the factor, and nobody really wants a '83 LTD so there isn't much of a market for it.

However, a lot of the reason that many of the highly desirable cars right now are so expensive is because the people that had them had an attitude about them much like what people have about LT1/LS1 F-bodies now.. Oh, there's 10 bazillion of them, they're a dime a dozen, I'll just blow this one up and buy another one. Sooner or later there isn't going to be that many "other ones" to buy.... which makes the ones that are around and in nice shape that much more valuable.

Thankfully there are people like me who buy the less common models and stash them away so that 10.. 15... 20 years from now, there will still be an original, stock, low mileage, numbers matching car around for some collector to buy.

And if you don't believe that the color of the paint makes a difference, just take a look at how much more money a Brewster Green '73 Trans Am will command over a red one, or a white one.

Personally, I did not buy my car to make money off it... I bought it to make sure it didn't end up in a scrap yard somewhere.
