How are you going to a 4.070 bore on that block to make a 427 with a 4.1" crank

With a boring bar

Typically leave the block at 4.065" in that case technically 425.6 cubic inches

We've taken iron blocks out to 4.080", minimum thickness in each bore was .130"; .175" if I recall on the thrust.

Hows oil consumption and bore roundness after run in, isnt that a bit on the thin side? I see some trying to use 4.100 crank on stock sleeves and they oil quite abit if you dont get it right, would that add to it?

I obviously see your just here to give me grief, if you don't like what you see, move on.

I recommend 427 iron block for mild street setup 500rwhp, ie ported stock heads. People want the most cubic inch for their funds.

Their is no sleeves in an iron block, people have run 4.100" crank stroke in 5.5" bore length blocks for years. Do I recommend that? not for a power adder. Some people even run 4.250" stroke on 5.5" block.

Thin side? its .130" after boring, we can assume it was .160"-.170" when new? Thats the minimum thickness. LSX block is .225" 360º with a 4.155" bore size. LSX blocks have Siamese bores, 6.0 block has full water flow around the bores, it gets thinner between bores for water flow.

Go back to YB if you want a debate.

Just asking bud, had a customer that was interested in getting you to do a shortblock for them. Is there a reason to get defensive over such simple ?s just answering them would be easy enough, if its nothing to worry about say so. Guess hell just move on.

And yes I know they dont have sleeves, I should have said cylinders, but I think we both know I meant the 5.45-5.46" of room to work with. We ran a 4.1" crank for a while in an engine no problem, but it wasnt a shelf 6.125 rod/piston. That was in a factory 4.065 block though, never heard of anyone taking the iron stuff out to 4.080 and doing anything with them

I take exception to when someone phrases "trying to run a 4.100 crankshaft" insinuating as if throwing a dart. Its not first time its been done.

I'm more then happy to answer genuine questions, I do so well into the night as many know.

Hey Fraser can you send me some prices on the 427 and 402 shortblocks! I am looking at running mainly an NA motor but might throw a small shot of nitrous at it as well!

Thanks,

Fraser - I'm looking to build a LQ4 or LQ9 408 with all forged internals and 8.5 compression to eventually run an ATI Procharger D1SC at 15 psi max. I will be running it in a 2000 Firehawk currently with the LS1 and I'm unsure of any mods that would be needed to be made (if any) to accept this block/combination. Can you give me a price on a combination with a recommended head package that will flow well with the D1SC. I am looking for bullet-proof vs. max power available. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
James

Can you shoot me a price for a block that can handle a 67mm turbo at 5-10 lbs of boost. My stock #7 cylinder gave out and I need a stronger short block to bolt to my stock LS1 heads. Shipping would be to 71105. Thanks.
