AAM is the company that bought GM's axle producing plants in 1994. They have refined their processes and produce high quality parts. I have seen these gears out last all of the other components, ie. differentials and axleshafts. They are absolutely quiet when set up with a good contact patern.

The AAM gears are $190.00 and I figured in an average $17.00 for shipping.

since I have a 98 with an Auburn in it.... would I need to replace anything in it? Don't they need new clutches in them after a while?

I have a few TA covers comming in for the 8.5 axle. The 8.5 Truetrac's is $395.00 and I need to know what axle spline you have before you order.
The bearing kit may be more than the standard since the Truetrac uses a different journal size and nonstandard differential bearings are needed.

The Auburn is nonserviceable and you need to clean it out and inspect it.

I have a 30 spline axle. The carrier bearing and race I have are LM-603049 and LM-603012, respectfully. I was looking at the application list for the Truetrac on the Manufacturers site. In the section where list the application type, it list the bearings and race listed above for my application. Yet, it is footnoted to use Timken 36 bearings for the same year as my vehicle. Are these one in the same? If you could let me know, that would be great. I like to be sure of all components before purchasing.

I think that LM-603049 and LM-603012 are the standardized names for the bearings and races so that each manufacturer can build the same piece(s).

Anyway, I will not be ready to make the decision to purchase until the end of month.

What is the recommended fluid for Truetrac? Is there any clearance issues with the TA and TrueTac on an 8.5" 10 bolt?

Ok, I should have read your sig more closely. The 8.6 from 1999 and newer have the 3.0625 differential bearing bores and the older trucks and 8.5's are 2.890. The Truetrac will go right in without any issues and I can even press on the bearings on for you. You can use any type of oil with that unit.
