99% of all radar detectors dont give you much warning
since you drive an Fbody if a cop is shooting radar youre going to be the first one targeted
so when your radar detector starts going off hes already gottcha
and if you drive noticably faster like 80 in a 60 they dont even need radar

I have always wanted a Valentine, cool that they show you what direction the radar is coming from.....
As others have said, you have to be in some traffic for them to save you......

If your going to throw down the $ for a radar detector, definitely make it a V1 or Passport.
Just yesterday, my V1 saved me from 20-25 over ticket. A damn cop was radaring (sp?) in a school parking lot. The V1 warned me over 2 "speed zones" in advance (55->45 & 45->40). This happens at least 3 or 4 times a month!
It may not be a "license to speed" but it gives you at least some peace of mind while on road trips. I'll never drive another vehicle without one (My dad won't either since he saw mine).

I used to keep a Passport 3500 in the car. It saved me many times. On one occasion, a guy was gunning around the corner. My passport warned me early enough that I could flash my lights to my dad in front of me, too. We both rolled by at the proper speed. They're great if you know how to read them. I started just driving at the limit (+ 5mph) about a year ago and I'm pretty happy with that. It was definately worth the investment, though.

i had an escot 8500 x50 for awhile and loved it. picked up every cop driving around his/her radar on. i thought i had a few missed signals but ended up being cops about a mile up the road. i think valentine ones are a bit outdated which is why i went with the passport.
also keep in mind that detectors only pick up police that have their radars ON, which in my area isnt very often.

i got mine over a year ago and havnt regretted it since. a valentine isnt gonna save you if your way over speed. valentines are great for long trips and unfamiliar areas. most state troopers here in texas know how to get around a detector. a valentine isnt bullet proof but ive tried every other one i can get my hands on. the valentine is pricey but i love it

I find that they do, if you get the right one. Get either an excort passport 8500 or a valentine One. With either you pick up cops before they even know your there. So far away that by the time your passing them watching them clock you you just laugh. I named my passport Charles and he has saved me so many times!!! its well worth the cash!

yes, without a doubt, my V1 has saved my *** more times than i can count.....anywhere from 4 - 5 mph over to around 25 - 30 mph over.
but like people have stated, no radar detector will get you out of 100% of tickets. i got a ticket even with my V1, because i was coming up over a hill and didn't see him until it was far too late, and he didn't have the radar on until just as i was starting to go down the hill.
but even so, the amount of money i would have paid in tickets that my V1 has saved me from could buy a V1 many, many times over.
do it, you won't regret it.
if there's one thing that i don't like about it (and this is my only gripe about it) is that if it's left in the windshield in direct sunlight when it's really hot out, it will overheat and stop working.....so i have to remove it from the windshield and keep it in a shaded area when i'm not in the car. but that's not even a big deal, because there's no way i'm leaving a $400 radar detector in the car for someone to steal, anyway......

Any top of the line radar detector will work great. But none will work very well if you just rely on it and nothing else. You still need to keep your eyes open and pay attention to your surroundings. Paying attention combined with a radar detector will increase your chances of not getting caught, but it won't completely eliminate tickets.
The nice thing about the V1's is that they include 2 anteneas (one forward and one in the rear) which helps it tell you if the signal is in the front, rear or on the side. This is helpful so you can quickly look in the right direction for the cop. Also, the signal counter is helpful if you're in an area that has know false signals (shopping malls). If you suddenly have an extra signal one day, it's a good chance that you'll see a cop in that area. This also helps if you pass a cop that's radaring, but the counter shows 2 signals. There just might be another cop farther ahead to catch anyone that thinks they're safe and can speed up again. It's also nice that you can send in the V1 for an upgrade which extends the warrenty by a year. I still need to send mine in, but I hate being without it. :o If there's more then 1 radar type in use in the area or more then 1 direction that they're coming from, the V1 will flash the most immediate radar type and direction. However, if the cop is using instant on, laser or POP, then you'll receive very little warning. There's no much any detector can do in these situations. This is where paying attention comes in.
My only complaint with the V1 is that it sometimes picks up false laser signals. Primarily when I'm stopped behind a Trailblazer or other sister cars. Something about the brake lights triggers the laser warning. It gets annoying when the driver keeps inching forward and hits the brakes again and again and again....

V1 is definitely worth it over the X50. My X50 definitely has saved me several times though. If you're not going too fast, even if you're alone, cops will often not chase you if you slow down immediately, even if they obviously did see that you were speeding, and especially if they're sitting just past a speed limit decrease (because it can look like you were just slowing down for that). It's still good to have for laser, but if you get the laser warning, he already knows your speed before you can react. I'd still take it over nothing though.

IF you can afford the gas to drive that fast anymore (or if you street race, which I DO NOT condone, just saying IF you do), it will save you almost every time (and maybe keep you out of jail, and your ride from being impounded in the case of being caught for street racing).
I just sold my V1 since I can no longer afford the fuel to drive 20-35+ over the limit anyway.

i just bought the passport escort 9500i... it was more than the v1. but i heard the v1 sets off alot of false alarms.. the 9500i has gps so u can mark where a speedtrap is, and the next time you go that way, it will warn u a mile in advance about the speedtrap... it also displays your mph when the radar goes off which is nice, cuz when it goes off i look at the detector and not my speedo for some reason... and it tells me my mph!

Love the V1, have one in each of my cars. Its saved me numerous times, and I think the best part about it is that it goes off SO FAR in advance sometimes. Im talking like a few miles even!! Its crazy!!! I think you'd have to pay me to use another detector, thats how much I love'em!
