RPMs are a huge factor when discussing the durability of a stock late-model 302 block; often more important than sheer power. and the girdles do nothing but keep everything in a nice pile when it breaks.
I'll be spinning my stocker to 7ish and we'll see how long it takes to make two inline 4s although I put in smaller pills.

A lot of ignorance to go around in this thread. Has anyone checked out the latest 5.0 mustang magazine? In it, a 340 c.i. engine with a boss block makes 600 hp n/a and 800 hp with nitrous.
To the ignorant GUY from strawberry, Alabama: I've got a 331 c.i. fox-body and I'd gladly take your $20 (or more) in any race against your car from a drag or a roll, if you're willing to come on down to Columbus, GA or Silver Dollar raceway in Reynolds. If you're confident enough in your POS then I'll make it worth your while.
To others: a properly built 347 will always make more power than a similarly built 331, and this is coming from a guy who built a 331. The problem with 347s has been greatly exaggerated and can even be easily overcome with a proper length rod 5.315" rod instead of a 5.400" rod. If you use this rod, then you can use the exact same piston in a 347 that would otherwise be in a 331. Even without the use of this length of rod, many builders have had absolutely 0 issues with a 5.400" rod and proper clearancing. Bottom line is that properly built there is no oil consumption problem or power reduction that will result from choosing a 347 c.i. engine instead of a 331. The increase in stroke is just 15 hundredths of an inch. Think about the mechanics of that. That's a crankshaft with throws that are offset only 75 thousandths of an inch more than the 331 crank.
The hype that resulted in this new myth that 331s make more power than 347s came from a DSS dipshit that had his opinion posted in a MM&FF magazine. It was dead wrong at the time and has always been dead wrong. I don't know if this was some kind of marketing hype or if he just saw a 331 with a better combo make more power than a 347 with worse combo and didn't put 2 and 2 together.
I made the choice to go with a 331 based on the deal I could get on a crank and rods that resulted in that displacement. That said, I'd swap in a heart beat if I could get a comparably stout 3.400" stroke crank with similarly tough 5.315" rods. I also needed a thicker piston (added compression-height) to help shield the wrist pins from the increased heat associated with a high-boost turbo application.
