Default Bolt-on SS vs 347 stroker GT

I rolled on a 94-97ish mustang gt the other day on my way to work. I've seen it around before but never had a chance to race him. So i get stuck beind him at a light and hear his cam lope lol and was pretty sure i was about to get my *** handed to me. I pulled up next to him throw a few revs then give him the three honks. He get a jump on my bc of my auto but once my car downshifts to 2nd i start to pull on him. It bounced it off the rev limiter going into 3rd and by the time i hit about 120ish i was roughly 2-3 cars ahead. A couple days later i go to my buddies house and the car is there, his bro is friends with the kid. The kid tells me he has a 347 stroker with intake, 4.10's, short throw, full exhaust, cam, and some sort of clutch. My mods are full exhaust, lid, FTRA, free mods, and some suspension stuff. He said he's had the car for about a year so i expect he can drive it decently. Thought he should have taken me by a few for sure.

Dont want to put down my car, but pretty sure its a weak 347. My car really needs a tune. The past two races i've lost, and sti pushing about 20 pounds of boost and my buddies rebuilt z28 with 427 lol. So this helped my confidence.

Good kill, but if he did not put at least a 185cc head (that flows 260+) on that 347 he screwed up. 480-500hp should be a given for a blind man .

i have less and less respect for the 347's more and more.. i know there is a select few that are built correctly.. but for the most part, they are turds.

good raceing.I never did like those shitty ford 347 motor kits. They are all peice of ****.80 percent of everything i smoked has had a junky asz 347 in it.junk.my buddy put one in his scotsdale and it had american pride headers , junky *** edelbrock carbrator , mallory distributor , and it had some shitty ford racing cam in it.Anyways i smoked it bad.It had to be at least 23 cars ,would have been worse but i had a blowout POWW and had to stop raceing but he flew by me and said he won but i really smoked him.

Personally I wouldn't waste my time with a 302-based build. I would go straight to something 351W based. Which is what I'm gonna do with my Notchback build

I know plenty of 302 based motors that will flat out body slam anything you build with your 351. No offense but damn there are some ignorant statements in this thread.

Oh and to the OP it was a very, very weak 347. When my 95 GT had AFR 165 heads (small heads), Edelbrock Performer intake (small intake), and a custom camshaft on the stock 302 I pulled on a A4 T/A with about the same mods as you plus 4.10 gears.

now i wasnt saying what runelevens was...

im not saying they arent fast... im saying *most that i see/run/hear of are turds.. now i have seen and heard of my shar that will get up and go.. its just rare that when someone is building one they know what they are doing..

im not ignorant, i know they can be fast, just people dont usually know how to build them, or match the engine with supporting mods? i dont know..

Thats because most of your 5.0 owners either have no money, are young, or both. They think that their 302 or 347 with GT40 heads, GT40/Cobra intake, and a E303 camshaft will run hard when in reality it would be nice setup 20 years ago, not now.

And I didn't call you ignorant...I said there were some ignorant statements.

well, honestly my statements about mustangs in general usually are ignorant.. i just dont know that much about them to make educated statements, so my statements of them are either what i *think, or my experience with them, which isnt very much...

the only one that i have raced has quite a bit in his car.. he has full suspension, and as far as then engine goes i dont know his mods, H/C full bolt ons of course, but as far as actual cam and heads and stuff i am oblivious, it just doesnt impress me very much at all.. but again, it may be an impressive 347, because i dont know what they are *suppose to run..
