Raced tpi car.
Raced 305 TPI car from a 40 roll due to massive rain. The car sounded good. I went to 125. He gave up earlier in the race, I just wanted to prove a point to his **** talking friend with a 5.0. The camaro kid was cool. He said he would be up at Norwalk on Oct. 17th. Glad to actually get my 6th race since May when I bought the car. Nobody races me anymore, or I just can't find them in a newer car. For whatever reason, it pisses me off.

Why would you EVER race in the rain??!
Was the 305 basically stock? I have run those things before, and I think they might be better matched with the newer 6 cyl's, and aren't usually worth wasting gas on. Hell, the 305's are lower on the food chain then the stangs are.

Re: Raced tpi car.
My friend had a 350 TPI (L98), man that thing could move with minor mods. He totalled it, got another L98, did heads/cam, and the thing ran 12s. Now I know an LS1 with h/c will run 11s, but for a 15 year old motor, that's pretty damn good.
The 305s aren't too much to brag about. I've raced my friend's 305 TBI in my 3.4 v6 vert, I lost, but it was a damn close race. The top was down as well.
Racing in the rain is asking for trouble... I wouldn't do it.

I raced two 305s (buddies, i believe) last time i got my mustang to the track. just by luck, i lined up against both of them in a row. an iroc z and a late 80s t/a (forgive me for not knowing the exact year). same thing happened both times... they jumped a car length or two ahead of me off the line, but midway through second i passed them and ate them up by the end of the track.
frankly i was dissapointed. i expected more of a fight. i can't even say "maybe they were shitty drivers" cause I am a shitty driver, and they DID get the jump on me off the line.

Re: Raced tpi car.
LOL, Well he has a Hooker Catback and I don't know what else. I was just happy to get someone willing to race. About the rain, It stopped for about an hour or so, The roads were soaked but I did realize the other car's potential so I wasn't too worried about laying into my car too hard. I have KDWS's and they aren't too bad as long as I am going straight in the rain.

Re: Raced tpi car.
Please, please, please...don't ever race in the rain. VERY bad idea. You have zero control over your car at 125mph in the rain. You may think you do, but with those conditions control is merely an illusion.
<Rant off>
My first car was a '87 Trans Am with the 305 in it. I never took it to the track, but I'd say it was a solid 15 second car. I thought it was badass. I didn't know **** when I was 16 so go figure.

Hey an 87 trans am that runs 15s is better than todays 16 year old with a 17 second civic that thinks he's badass, right? Besides, I bet it was dirt cheap.

Re: Raced tpi car.
As a matter of fact I did get a great price on it. The outside was perfect and the interior was spotless. I bought it in '92 so it was a few years old already. I paid $3,200 for it and it only had 60K miles on it. Very cool car for a 16 year old back then.

Re: Raced tpi car.
((Race in the rain. Gotta try that someday (when I want to kill myself).))
That is a nice way to look at it.
I knew that i would more than likely win. But there is always the person who says they have a slower car and have something evil. I raced a 80's 5.0 with worked heads, cam, etc. and beat him in my 81 305 car. You can make the 305's run decent, but they will never be a 350.
