Default srt8 challenger run-in

so i'm heading down the freeway with the top up (can't use the excuse for top down = wind drag) and my nitrous is armed since i've got a few pounds i want to get rid of before i refill it later in the day.

traffic is moderate and i'm going about 70-75 when i want to go 90. i see a dark grey (black?) srt8 challenger weaving through traffic to get to me.
so, as a courtesy, i speed up and find a spot for us to race once he catches up. i drop back and hold a spot for him at about 70mph... not the best speed for an auto with 3.23 gears, but i thought the stall would help.

the guy cruises up wearing his poker face. he looks like he's in his early 20's. i see he's got some aftermarket wheels with red lip and he might be lowered. he pulls up next to me and looks over - i nod. a half second later, he jumps on the gas pedal. thing sounds nice and definitely not stock. he at least had headers/exhaust.

getting the jump on me, he pulls forward by a car (his back bumper a few inches from my front bumper) before im wot and downshifted. i'm JUST hanging on and so i hit the spray and start pulling him in. in what felt like forever, we're going 110-115mph side by side before he lets off and hits the brakes for traffic in his lane.

wtf is wrong with my ****

Well how much psi was left in the bottle when you raced him? I think you should have been hunting him down before you were on the kit anyhow... well unless he had a good bit done. Those cars run 13.8's stock so I guess it is not so bad.

It does sound rather odd. Your car should be pretty close to his without the spray. I had similar mods as you and was running low 13's N/A. With the spray mid 12's. If you hit the spray and didn't start reeling him in quick or passing him than he may have had nitrous too. I have ran a friends new monte ss with a ls6 cam in it and he would pull a car on me from 70 to about 110. But if I sprayed it and even with him getting the jump on me I would reel him in really quick and pass him very easily.

Something doesn't add up if you sprayed him and didn't reel him in quick. He may of had a shot too!

I think an SRT8 would pull you because auto's suck from a roll. I'm sure you would have done WAY better with the bottle at 900psi

Um, last time I checked a nano system keeps 1000psi until the bottle is completly empty...

Yeah, that kit is pretty freakin sweet. It costs as much as the nitrous kit itself but it's the only way to go, in my opinion (my brother just installed his kit and I've been reading up on the NANO).

OP, you have no idea what was done to his car and you went from a bad roll in an auto. I don't understand why you think something is wrong with your car.

i havent done the research to see if it is true or not. I was told that there are 2 different ci engines they are putting in the srt8 challenger. I was rolling in my z one night and I came up on a dude in one. we rolled from about 35-40 to about 90 when we came up on a cop. Neither of us pulled on the other. came to a stop light, exchanged a few friendly words then he ripped away going sideways, lol. pretty cool guy, was about 35ish.

I didnt really know what to expect but IMO, an almost stock camaro @ 10 yrs old having no prob keeping up with a brand new muscle car...dodges newest arrival. I wasnt to impressed. They do look good though and have some pretty cool features.

Anyone else have a run in with one of these?

OH! and +10 on the nano system, im getting one myself!

Im thinking that challenger had more than what you think he did, I've heard just bolt on F-bods pulling chargers and the challenger is not much if any faster. If he was stock and you sprayed him I would have thought you would have yanked him hard.

What IS a good speed to roll at with the auto and 323s? I mean obviously from a dig is where it's at with an auto, especially with a stall. But if one MUST do a roll race, what speed is best? Does having a stall mean to start at a lower speed roll or a higher speed? Just curious is all. Nice run though op, I'm sure that challenger wasn't exactly stock like you said, and it sounds about right from how I'm reading it.

you're right.. i need to find out what he had done to his car. he started pulling pretty good up top. had i not sprayed, he would have pulled a length or two on me at least.

Bob were you in Texas by chance ? Because a local NFL Football Player has a charger that matches that description dead nuts, and its pretty modded. After i sucked it up they traded it in to the ford dealership for a new f-250 a week later.

I know they are least in the low 13's with a decent driver.
