As someone stated before I say a 4v motor swap is what the OP raced.

You want to shift around 500rpm or so past peak power. Laying down the highest "average" hp will give you the best mph. In addition you don't always want to shift at the same rpm for each gear either. If the transmission's gears were numerically reduced the same between 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 you would but they're not.

FWIW, my car peaks at 6400. I shift at 7100,6800, and 6600. My tranny ratios are 3.37, 1.99, 1.33, 1.0. So you can see why the 1-2 shift is so high cause it has the biggest difference between gears. If I shift any lower my mph suffers.... and I've tried too.

The main thing that tends to get overlooked is the difference in tranny gears in relation to peak power. That's why I always say I couldnt' hop into any other car and drive it perfectly. Everyone needs seat time to be the most efficient. Powerband and gearing are all different.
Then try to shift between 5700-5900. Its not written in stone but 500 past peak is a good starting point.

is it werid that i lost lastnight to a gt with nitrous and full bolt ons i mean i have an 00 ss m6 with prc 5.3 heads and ms3 with longtubs and pulley and maf. he was slowly pullin on me he had me by half a car

well we started in 2nd gear, and he started spraying in 3rd i guess he has full boltons and gears to go along with that spray i just couldnt believe i lost. but then later that night i raced a c6 and he wasnt pullin on me we where neck and neck untill i missed 4th

Don't base it off of the C6. That's RIcer IMO. YOu dont' know the driver ability of the C6 and you don't know the mods of the NE GT.

There is one that is local that I wouldn't mind loosing too. But for the majority...I agree.
EDIT: I would like to change this post. The local mustang is a 94. Soooooooo....I would off myself if I did lose to any 96-98 gt .

hahah i wasnt tryin to sound like a dick, or anything i just figured i would of had the upper hand with a top end ls1. but i guess those 4.6 with boltons and 4.11's with a 75 shot are pretty sick, im just glad i was a half a car behind him. on top of that i also beat a vette that night, and a boosted honda

Well i did some asking around about this car and ran into one of his buddies that gave him up.It has p.i. heads, big cams, trick flow intake mani.and a "small shot"but claims the bottle was empty that day from track use
