Default Killed by a 4.6

So i was just on my way home from work and i needed some gas.so i pulled into my favorite local gas station and there was a black 96 bodystyle gt getting gas,when i pulled to the pump beside him i noticed he had nitto drag radials.so we got to talking and he said it was a non p.i. headed car with cams,full bolt-ons,tremec trans,tune and 3.73 gears.so i ask if he wants to race and he said sure.we go down the road to the spot and do a 25mph roll.First and second gear we were door to door,and we both hit third about the same time and when we do he instantly pulls a car and a half on me,then i hit fourth and he pulls about another half on me.Im kinda disappointed i lost.do yall think it was possible he was spraying a small shot?i just though it was odd he put lengths on me in third,from my experience third and fourth is a mustangs weak spot.

With what you have there is no way in hell that guy didn't spray or have something he wasn't telling you about. That's assuming you can drive...

*a PI GT puts down around ~300 with the mods you mentioned.

very possible he was spraying but wut color car was it and where was this at? i have a buddy with a red 95 cobra with cam and heads and full bolt ons and his car runs good. hes just south of mboro tn

i like to say i can drive.i nail my shifts right at 5500 everytime,pretty hard and fast too.it was black with some black wheels.they were five spokes but the split towards the top with a s in the middle.maybe steeda or saleen wheels

edit:this was in cannon county,just southeast of murfreesboro

if you say you can drive then that mustang must be sprayed, BUT anything can happen on the street.

YEah...cause he couldnt' have lied about the mods either right?


OP - I'm sure he had a PI setup and was Bs'ing you. Also.....those cars come with tremec from the factory....(well, tremec bought out BW).

i used to take them to 6k but when i got it dynoed the power started falling off at 5500 and ever since then thats were ive shifted at.doesnt fall out of powerband.I dont really get why he would have lied.we werent racing for money and i wasnt talking ****.people that lie about their set ups annoy me.really,whats the point unless your trying to hustle some money out of somebody?

Edit:btw the headers and stuff arent on yet incase yall didnt notice that.

Shift points should be in relation to power curve of the next gear and gear ratios.....'idealy'.

If you are out of, or almost out of the curve in the next gear, then you are shooting yourself in the foot (usually).

oh ya forgot to mention that..

i'm a newb in a mustang world and still learning in lsx engine, please enlightened me, how much hp would a full bolt ons 96-99 gt would make?

some people just like to talk it up........not many stang guys that know what they are doing are going to waste the time and $$$ to do cams on a non-pi car. Doesn't make sense because the $$ paid to do wth cams would pay for a PI setup and yield better results. Then again, he did do 3.73s.

Let me put it to you this way.......they way he described it to you, he's got a mid 14 sec car, Low 14s on his best day at the best track. Put that into relation of your story.

96-98 (99s are PIs ) 'full bolt on/tuned' as in a true full exhaust, etc (not touching valve covers), I'd be shocked if it was over 215rwhp, and I think that would be EXTREMELY generous. 200rwhp would be more like it.

correct...but they can run pretty good for 300rwhp

trevors silver gt ran 12.1 at 111 with 300rwhp

3rd and 4th are the Stangs strong spot- especially with those 3.73's. He could be running a turbo or a small shot.

Full bolt ons minus spray I'd say in the 260-280 range. 300 would be way out of the ordinary for a 96-98. 200 would be bone stock or exhaust only.

96-98 is NPI and 300rwhp on a 99-04 PI GT with full bolt-ons AND cams.

PLease post a link of a 96-98 pushing 260-280 full bolt on only. Hell, I'll even take hear-say.

A full-exhaust/intake/tuned PI GT will make ~280-285rwhp. A non-PI GT with the same mods would be lucky to crack 225rwhp without atleast a PI intake manifold.
