160mph and lost...
He really knows his stuff and puts the "dont do that" comments into facts which most can understand better.
As he said, going fast is a ton of fun, but has an almost unlimited potential for disaster.
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
Your seat belts were meant to restrain you at 80 mph and below, they do nothing for you at 165. Your air bags are designed to deploy in time to catch your head before it reaches anything solid at 80 mph and below. At 165 if you hit something, 1st your head and entire body become one with the dash .... then the airbag deploys and simply sucker punches you back the direction you came from
Many of us go way too fast on the street, and no one is more guilty than I am. As a matter of fact I just kicked NataSS's *** in a highspeed contest on I-5 not too long ago in my '71
..... OK well so it was a tie
I understand completely the adrenaline rush and allure of "opening 'er up" on a lonely stretch of road. If you guys want to REALLY go fast with a reasonable safety factor, then like NataSS has already hinted at, the Silver State Classic will more than satisfy your urge. And it will cost you much, much less than 1 ticket at triple digit speeds. We're going in May ..... anybody ? Anyone? Bueller ?
I also have a heavy foot, and I really like opening it up on the highway. From my expirence, I have noticed that if the highway is well lit (which most are in my area), then day or night doesnt matter. As long as the driver has the common sense needed to travel at such high speeds, and reflexes to react to whatever he/she may encounter, then you should be ok. I say should because we of course cannot accuratly figure in the chance of a tire blowing out, or any other imperfection in the road that would alter the path of the car.
In defense of Pizz, I am going to go on a hunch and assume the reason he does this kind of high speed driving at 4am is because that is the only time the road is as open as it is.
And just for the record....The speeds listed were done in other cars, not my SS. This May will be the maiden voyage for the SS. The 197mph run was done in a car that was built in 1954
And if you want to talk about pucker factor, strap yourself into a car built back then and is powered by a Terry LaBonte BUSCH motor making a hair over 800hp that will turn 8500 all day long. Now put yourself in the passenger seat....with no control over what happens and try to keep a cool head while your trying to do math on the fly, run stop watches, tell the driver what to expect at the next turn and watch the road for anything out of the ordinary. That is some good **** my friends! Last edited by NataSS Inc; Dec 2, 2003 at 01:20 AM.
but smells abit like a rice to me
first of all, your speedo goes only to 150 (of course if you don't have upgraded one).
Second of all, if your speed limiter kicked in (and i don't know when stock limter kicks in, but i would imagine before 150mph) otherwise what's the point to have it there
Third of all, i can't imagine either of your cars going much faster than 165 - not enough power and aerodynamics, etc. Also It would take both of you forever to climb to 165 or if lucky above.

1. My speedo reads to 160. It's a well known fact that an LS1 can reach 160mph stock. My rev limiter was raised to 6600 and I just forgot to change the speed limiter after the cam swap b/c I never thought I'd be going that fast to begin with.
2. the stock governor is just under 160mph. I had a TT Supra that was governed at 156mph. The Suzuki GSXR 1300(Hyabusa) is governed at something crazy like 186mph. So don't go shooting off about what you'dm imagine would or wouldn't happen. Damn, if you don't know then just don't say anything.
3. Why would I make some shyt up like that. I have 3(the other driver and a passenger in each) other people that can vouch for the race. And trust me when i say there was plenty of power in my car to get it up there fairly quickly. My car was bouncing off the governor, and my friend walked passed me a good bit. So I know he had to be doing something in the vicinity of 180.
I wouldn't post this if I wanted to make some shyt up. If I wanted to lie about it I'd have said I hit 200 and then I'd prob change the times in my sig to something that sounds better like 10's and my power #'s to something better like 500/500.
Ask any other guys in the forum...what speeds do they think a 2001 M6 cammed F-Body with all the bolt-ons capable of.

I have no doubts about you hittng 160mph... but i say 180 sounds like a great bullshit to me - even in M6 - not talking about A4
did you also sprayed when you guys raced?
i wish NataSS could correct me if i'm wrong

I seriously wouldn't make it up. I'm telling you exactly how it happened and exactly what I saw my instruments telling me. I'm just saying that my car was pulling like a monster thru 5th gear when it bounced on the governor. The way it was pulling I know it had alot more in it. And the way my friend walked right by me at that speed was nuts. He has a stock LS1 T/A, A4, 3.23 gears, and all the bolt-ons. He also removed the speed limiter and adjusted a few of his shift points. Thats all I know about his car.
With an A4 and running at 165mph for any time period without some kind of cooler for the trans, there might be a good chance he did a bit of damage to it.
A stock Fbody will hit a hair over 170mph before it just flat out runs out of power to go any faster. I cant really comment on stock top speeds because all the Fbody's I have seen that have gone over 165mph and up to 220mph are so heavily moddified that they resemble NASCARS more than a street driven Fbody.
