It's been my impression that not only are Vettes capable of better 60fts, they also are lighter and have wider tires than the GTOs. A CTS-V 1st gen. is tough to launch but a Vette - not so much from what I've seen.

well I ran 13.5 with just an intake on the car and shitty tires...but Im a m6

I don't get it? You said an F-body is faster than a C5, yet the record is 12.7 @ 110 in a C5 convertible. And that an LS2 GTO A4 traps 3-4mph faster? There is a 2003 Auto on the list that ran 13.1 @ 106. How does the link back your claims?

Judging by your posts I take it you drink a lot?

This is the fastest vettes that they know of.. I promise you most of these are in some of the best weather/track conditions that their track sees. Why? Because this is obviously the fastest pass that they have had. Most of those are NO where near what most vettes/ls1s will run. The ones towards the end of the list are much closer.

The majority of them are trapping between 104-106. Now you have to remember, if one of them posted 13.1XX @106.XX, most of his runs are probably 13.3 @105.XX .. This is not a fact, but chances are it is correct.

Most of the ls2 GTOs that I have seen run in the bottom/mid 13s @105+... I am NOT talking about a "fastest" list, rather tock GTO 6.0s running in average weather. In other words, not getting a new PB.

Most ls1 fbodys that I see run mid-high 13s, most being mids while trapping 104-107 depending on auto or manual. Again, not the PBs, but average times.

Now instead of reading that defensively, really think about it. I'm not trying to argue necessarily just showing/telling what I have seen and experienced first hand. There is absolutely no reason a vette can't beat an fbody or an fbody beat a vette.. From a dig or a roll. It just so happens in all the races I have ever witnessed in person (where I know both cars) that an fbody loses. I have seen stock fbodys lose to 6.0 GTOs.

Those are some impressive times by those cars.. But there is a reason they are on the internet, they are impressive, meaning above normal. I mean come on, 13.0@105mph.. That thing REALLY got moving quick for having such a low mph. I would bet that was in a killer DA.

Of course all of my "assumptions" could be wrong. And if thats the case, then it is the case. I am 100% just stating what I have experienced.. Guess it is a take it or leave it kind of thing.

You think either one of the times you are talking about is even remotely possible at +2000 DA? I would say that is about average for most drag strips. I would bet money both of those times are in -DA on an absolutely perfect pass.

Either way, it won't change my mind.. I have seen it way too many times.

sorry but i just gotta add my two cents into the mix

When I was 19 years old i bought a brand new c6 camaro convertable...I thought the car was amazing. A friend challanged me to a drag race at the local strip in his stratus..I looked at his ugly dodge and looked at my beautiful fbody and easilt accepted..

Well he ran 15.9's and I ran 16.4's...

I did all the basic bolt ons and ran 16.1's to his still 15.9's..

I then added a supercharger and ran 15.1's and dusted him off like nonthing..But I saw the LS1 camaros their running low 14's and high 13's in stock form. This seemed GODLY to me back in the 90's..

My situation got better and I bought a brand new 2004 C5...I took her to the strip and ran 13.5 at 102-104.5 mph pretty much every single time...Car was a 2.73 geared automatic...

Their were around 15 LS1 Fbodies that also frequented the drag strip...My 13.5 tied for first place with a WS^ manual that had also ran a 13.5..The other 14 fbodies were in the 13.6-14.1 range stock....This wasnt just a rumor or my imagination. I was a part of the Fbody club here in Hawaii and we had our own forun ect and the times were all listed...

My bone stock C5 dynoed 299 rwhp SAE on a dyno jet and even with the 2.73 geared rear end layed the smack down on all those Fbodyies ( minus the ws6)

Then it happened. My first street race with a real car..By reel car I ment a car with over 300 Horse power...

I was cruising at 60 mph on the freewat in my 100% stock white C5...Along side me rolled up a white SS camaro fbody...The thought of the white f and Y body lined up still excites me to this day...We both hit it at the same time..From 70-110 mph it was VERY close....But by 120 mph i started walking him and by 135 mph I was two cars ahead...

C5's hit 175 mph in stock form....Fbodies hit 162 mph in stock form.....Not sure about the 6.0 GTO's..But a C5 is a serious car for a GTO....And my money would defiently be on the C5...Look at the arodynamics..Eventually the C5 is gonna win...Mn6 vrs mn6...Now a 2.73 heared auto c5 vrs the 3.46 auto goat and yea I see the goat winning...

Look at your keyboard; the "c" is right next to the "v". Now re-read the sentence as 'v6' instead of 'c6'.

Not surprised one bit. Those WS6s are my fav car at the moment. Even more so than the 10 Camaro.

You guys keep saying how much more a Vette is aero dynamic but its not that much more. The drag on a C5 is .29 and on the GTO its .31, not that big of a difference. Funny that the fastest times for each car and the average times for each car are all about the same but everyone thinks X is always faster than Y or Z......

I agree. But keep in mind cd must be multiplied by frontal area for a true picture of resistance.

When C&D did the 0-150mph test, the Camaro with it's shorter wheels/tires (a gearing advantage vs. the C5) had to shift into 5th earlier than the C5.

I've been paying attention to stock 110mph trap speed GTOs. I know of two IIRC, one weighs mysteriously 100+lbs less than everyone elses and the other has a short throw shifter on it.

man the V6 camaro Fbodies are slow...Very slow..They only dyno 150-165 rwhp SAE..Mine was a convertable and weighed around 3600 pounds..

Even with all the boltons and 6 psi of boost from the powerdyne supercharger in only dynoed like 220 rwhp SAE...

Anyways..C5's are better

The 3.8s are very stout.. The 3.4s are a joke.. But I did give my fair share of 305s a VERY close run in my old 3.4!

My screen name was 98greenglow on the V6 camaro boards...I did a lot with the V6 camaro. I had about 20K into that car and was the first to deshgn my own interkooler for the supercharger set up ( powerdyne)....

That car is where it all started for me....As far as being stout..back then it was kool just haveing a car that could get to 100 mph fairly fast....These days it's more like 150 mph fairly fast...

FWIW that stock v6 camro laid the smack down on a few stock v6 mustangs...

Quick Reply: 01 C5 vs 06 GTO 6.0... how did I lose? (TURNS OUT HES NOT STOCK!!!)
