Default Lost to a TURBO(?) mustang?

So I'm cruising down a dead highway Sunday morning with two petit passengers. I see a 99-04 mustang GT cruising along. Has a very distinct sound to him. Not like most bolt on mustangs I hear. I roll up to his right and pace him...

Well after maybe an 8th mile of pacing he is slowing down to about 50 mph. I'm about to just get ready to turn off, when he lays on the throttle. I was still fairly ready, and step on my car. I hear his car spool up with that all too familiar sound. The obvious lag he was facing helped me not get too killed while my car took it's time kicking down to second and pulling up the tach.

He puts about 1/ 1/2 to 2 cars on me until about 75-80 ish I believe when I hear him shift, and his pull stops a bit but he starts to built up boost again. My car shifts fairly hard into 3rd at around 90, which surprisingly doesn't hurt my situation much. We shut down about 115 with him no more than 3 to 3 1/2 cars out.

Now I wasn't at all disappointed with the outcome. I was actually fairly shocked. My car is in my sig. Was this car likely turbocharged or procharged? Could it have been running poorly on low boost or a bad tune? I never got to ask him. I had a bad feeling for him that if it where a dig and I didn't have any passengers, we would have been neck and neck. It definitely sounded like it'd spool up, and it would blow off when he'd let off.

i have to say its turbo. you can usually here a procharger whistle like crazy. if it was stock with a turbo u may pull him in the 8th but he would get u in a quarter imo. just to many variables. what does your car run btw?

It could be a turbo on a stock 2V new edge GT. I have a good deal of experience with Prochargers and there is no lag. Honorable death man. Two valves are like 210-230 RWHP stock. If he's running a low boost turbo it might be another 120-150 or so HP which might put him three car lengths in front of you.

There is no telling. When I had my turbo setup I would shift slow alot of the times to keep my clutch from slipping and not too much stress on my transmission (didn't work, I blew 3rd gear out eventually). So in shift slow mode/didn't need to shift hard to beat the other car, my car had lag. In kick your ***/bang the gears mode, my car had next to no lag.

Alright. I don't think he was shifting too easy. It definately didn't look like it. I wish I could give him another run without passengers. I had nearly stopped his pull and had a good 35 mph left in 3rd... Neither of us wanted to take it that far though. As for track times, there are no tracks on Oahu.

As for the long tubes, They are next. My yank ss3600 just came in!

That stang definitely had boost most likely turbo. For a little reference my car in sig T56 ran a 03 GT with a procharger on it. He said it made 400rwhp raced twice from a 30mph roll we were dead even on both runs. The mustang you raced had to be stronger than that. He might have had a huge turbo on low boost so that may cause the lag. Anyway get that stall put in and get you some headers then go hunt some pony it should be a close run next time.

Sounds about right. Stockers with a turbo will generally make 375-425 to the wheels.

By your description of the race the car was a turbo car... Get the stall on and get long tubes and search for him again... u will win with people in your car or not... mustang sounded like it ran atleast a 13.8 in the quarter

I can't believe the car I raced was making close to 400 rwhp but I guess it's possible. I would love to run into him now. With probably 240+ lbs less weight and him not getting the jump it'd be a fun race! I'll post results and a vid if I ever see him after my car gets stalled this or next week

sounds like a 2v with a larger turbo, i bet he is running stock internals and he has the bigger turbo for when he tosses a forged motor in there.
