Now if I was doing a cam swap on an LSx it would cost me under 500$ and I'd net around 60 or more RWHP. Plus I could do it over a weekend in my garage with simple hand tools. I'd sacrifice some MPG for that.
I owned a 3V for a while and looked into building it all motor......stupid decision after my research unless you want to drop a stroker shortblock in.

Exactly. Anyone thats willing to tackle that monkey mess of a timing chain and DOHC's, plus 2 specialty tools just to get the damn engine apart for a measily 30 WHP gain is nuts. Plus the fact that cams are 750$. I'll take nitrous or a blower and keep my good gas mileage.

regardless, it was a heads/cam ls1 only trapping 108... somethings is very wrong there. My bolt on iron ls2 ( lq4 with ls2 top end) trapping 114mph at a 3600lb race weight with 360whp on a mustang dyno with a 3500 converter and stock 3.46 gear. If his car did make 435whp... either the driver was doing something VERY wrong or his car really didnt make that power... however that setup seems about right for the power it made. Possibly had some issues after its was built and tuned that developed later maybe? And knowing the car trapped only 108 def makes it believable that the mustang could have legitamately won the race.

yeah but when youre spending that kinda money, you can just build a 600+ inch big block and still make more. Its pretty much the same argument you guys hold on the mod guys.

On some levels yes, but the difference in how any LS motor responds to N/A builds and how modulars do. I'd say it''s definitely similar, but not "pretty much the same" seeing as people can regularly make big N/A power with an LSX while still being pretty cost efficient.
