Thumbs up My HHR SS vs Newer BMW 335I

This is what I posted last week on our local club site. Aint nothing like having a sleeper vehicle. I'm also not sure about the stats on a BMW 335I but im happy with the performance of the HHR SS.

This morning while going to work, I was stopped at the light at 83rd and Northern when I got a text from a co worker saying his wife just had a baby. Well next to me was a Black BMW 335I and the light turns green and I was trying to texted back and I couldn't shift into 2nd gear. Well once I got it into 2nd gear the BMW acted like he wanted to race so I floored it still with cell phone in hand and we were neck and neck but I hit 3rd and started to pull away. We were hauling ***. LOL I got about 2 cars in front of him and I slowed down and then he passed me. I got behind him and it had dual exhaust and a D back plate with ADC on it. Not sure what that is but it was an older guy.

Well another kill for the HHR SS. I wonder what he thought LOL WTF?

Wow, beating a stock 335i is impressive for a 2.0 turbo with those mods. Im kind of suprised actually. Either way nice kill.

It was a drivers race IMO, but I was also impaired with a cell phone and driving and shifting with 1 hand. I guess the guy just felt the need to have fun in the morning. Older guy.

BTW, are 335I's manual or auto? It seemed like he was shifting.

Dammit! I knew I should've stayed behind you guys this morning. D: Did you happen to see a black 5.0 behind you? ;D

Anyways, that 335 was a diesel and seemed to be steptronic...

Well, it's even wierder if it's the diesel since they have more torque and I'm sure they didn't run up that high in mph....

Come on man, you beat a twin turbo inline 6 N54 335i with a boosted HHR SS? I may have to call bullshit on this one. My best friend has one that and we had the two fastest cars in our student parking lot. I run a full second faster than you in the quarter and with more MPH at the traps and my buddies 335i edges me just barely. With his new JB Tune theres no chance I can beat him. He is seeing close to 385rwhp out of that thing.

Bullshit.

Chances the guy is a very bad driver or the OP has a very strong engine.

Chances are the BMW wasn't racing. And there's no way the "OPs strong engine" makes up the 100-140rwhp difference between the two cars.

He is stage 1 now and with a few mods, so much less of a difference in whp.

My theory is that it might have been the 335d. That way no one is wrong here lol

You can't tell me GM Stage 1 brings the car up past 300fwhp. And regardless, his 1/4 mile time and trap speed are much lower than a 335i even with a Stage 1 kit.

If it is in fact a 335d, then we have a whole different story on our hands. Im just saying that this shouldnt happen. I can understand a 330i or a 328i, but not a boosted 335i.

GMPP Stage 1 Kit, DEJON IC Piping, Hahn Catted DP, Crazysteve Custom Intercooler Thats enough for about 290ish whp. and the car weighs right under 3300 pounds.

Wheras a stock E90 weighs about 300 lbs more and puts out a tad over 300whp.

So off of a roll at least it looks to be in the HHRs favor, and plus its not like he murdered the 335.

come on fellas, there's no way in hell a STOCK 335i is putting out over 300rwhp! However, they are mid 13 second cars... but with similiar mph to your cars, so from a roll sounds fairly even.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_N54

Read. 06-07 N54s have about 306hp, which means they dyno in the 260+ range at the wheels.

08 N54s have about 326hp, which means they dyno in the 270+ range at the wheels.

But even BMW admits that the HP and TQ figures are completely underrated and some cars have upwards of 350hp at the crank. Plus you would be surprised at how much torque those engines put out. Throw a tune on there and with some simple other mods, HP numbers in the high 3s aren't hard to attain.

It was indeed a diesel unless he raced another 335i while on that road which I doubt.

But diesel 335i's right with gas 335i's until triple digits.

I have driven both and i highly disagree with that, the diesel seemed fast from 20-40 and thats it.

Even the non diesel 335 has a **** ton of torque
