Default My NA 408ci SS vs KB blown GT

So one of my buddies bought a new GT and we've been going back and forth **** talking eachother. He's being very secretive about the mods, and he just had it dyno'd this weekend but won't disclose the numbers. Finally he showed up tonight and wanted to run, so I was all for it.

My car:
99 Camaro SS
408ci/PRC LS6 2.5s/MS4/Fast 90
TH350 with RMVB and brake, Vig 4500 stall
12 bolt with 4.10s
Street wheels/tires on (Nitto 275 drag radial)
Made 480rwhp when it was an M6 with a very conservative tune through full exhaust, easily be 500-515 if it were still an M6 with the new tuning and open cutout

His car:
02 GT Vert
Forged 4.6 with cams, unsure other mods
Kenne Bell 2.6 @ 10lbs boost
T5 with 3.27 gears
315 Nitto drag radial
Won't disclose WHP, but it was just tuned at MC racing in KC.
EDIT: 525whp, 450rwtq

1st run, he wanted to do a dig. Not sure why with his T5 against my A3. 3 honks and we're both pedaling off of the line, I hit it and barely spin, he spins a little and I'm out 2-3 cars by 2nd gear. We run to 125 or so and I'm out 4-5 cars with a steady slow pull

2nd run, I offer a 40 roll, even though it's a bad spot for me and an auto isn't a good roll racer against a manual. First for goes to around 50mph for me, but the 4500 stall makes up for it. Three honks and we're off. I immediately jump out a car and when we let off around 100 I was 3 cars or so.

Overall I'm very impressed with his car. There aren't many faster cars around here so it's nice to have some competition. He's talking about running more boost for a rematch, so we'll see. I do plan on spraying this car with a 250 shot after I swap gears, so he's going to need a lot of boost .

Just another NA GM walking a blown Ford (flame suit) Any idea what kind of power his car is making? I don't really know ford stuff.

My camera was on my charger at home, but he has it on video (if he'll ever post it) or my friend got it on his phone, so I'm hoping he'll upload it for me.

I think he's lying about what he has. That makes no sense.

He told me the car was intended to run E85, but he didn't want to go through the hassle of converting everything since we don't really have any E85 pumps locally. I noticed on local classifieds he had a set of 80lb injectors and 25 gallons of E85 for sale, so I'm going to assume that's true.

They tuned it to "be safe" on 91 octane. He did say however that he'll be upping the boost for a rematch, so we'll see.

He's running 10lbs of boost and he has a built short block? That seems
odd. 10psi with a 2v 4.6 isn't going to make any power. It's also strange
that he's running a 3.27 gear. Sounds like his setup needs work...unless
he's trying to be a roll racer. Still, 10psi isn't going to do anything for him
with a 2v.

Not much! He needs to turn that thing up to 25psi or so.

Good kill. Stop picking on the wimpy Mustangs.

14-15lbs of boost on a stock motor (theoretically) will make more than 460rwhp. With bolt-ons/cams 14-15lbs would be atleast 500rwhp. 10lbs is 415-420rwhp or so.

Good kill. How big is the cam in your 408 Flash? That thing sounds like a monster.

He has been very secretive about the mods since day 1. What I'm telling you guys is what he told me, and I have very very little knowledge about mustang stuff. I know a stock 4.6 is good for about 450rwhp with boost before kaboom typically, but he told me that it is forged. I know the trans is stock and I'm pretty sure the rear is stock as well, he told me he has a set of 4.10s for it that came with the car but he doesn't want to run them or a slick for fear of breaking stuff.

It is a custom cam from TSP "similar to an MS4," I'll be swapping it out sometime soon for something a little bigger.

He told me he's only running 10lbs, I dont know if that's a legitimate excuse, or he's running/making more power than and doesn't want to admit losing to a lower powered car. I would say he definitely has to be in the 550+ rwhp range judging by how well he hung with stock gears and being a Vert.

When he first asked to race me, I told him to bring 600rwhp so it was a good race, and he said it "wouldn't be a problem." So who knows what it actually makes. Im going over to his house tonight to get the videos on my jump drive, I'll try to pry some more info out of him.. or maybe a dyno slip.

Like I said.. if he ups the boost, it gives me a reason to install the bottle

Thanks for the kind words guys

Good kill, man! If he's being legit on his mods (no idea if he is or not) then maybe those races will convince him to step it up for next time

What's the over/under on how many posts Ke^in makes after the vids are posted in "Mustang" defense lol.
Agree on the 408's being nasty. friend has a Firebird (one of those limited editions, NHRA or Nascar, whatever) and his is ridiculously fast. spins MT ET Streets at the track like they are temporary spares..

I went over to his house tonight to get the vids and BS'd with him about the car a bit. It's a completely legitmate car, to my surprise.

He said his boost gauge goes up to 10psi. We measured the pullies and it looks like the blower pulley is 3.5" and the bottom is 7" roughly.

I saw the dyno slip and it made 525rwhp/450rwtq. I'll upload the vids in a few.

walked him, nice runs. It did seem like he was spinning from a dig, but thats part of racing, putting the power to the ground.

I launched at about 2000rpm and stayed 1/2 throttle until about 20, went WOT and spun, let off, and went WOT again. When I finally hooked I went around him in a hurry as you can see. I'm running on a bald 275 nitto because he wouldn't run me on my big tires (325 mickey)

It sounds like he did a pretty good job of launching it to prevent from spinning though. I didn't hear much spinning at all. The tires are new 315 Nittos
